Trailer is up for the sequel to AvP.  It actually looks like it could be what the first one should have been.  We'll find out at Christmas time.

NSFW due to violence and an F-word.

The trailer is awesome but I have no faith in the project. Zilch. It looks like some fanboys made it and threw in as much cool stuff as they could find. I'll confess to that being commendable but I'm tired of seeing these franchises blatantly milked for diminishing returns. Instead, I'll watch the original Predator followed by the original Aliens. icon_biggrin

Yeah the first Alien movie still gives me the "hide behind the cushion" moments start to finish, in fact sitting still for any length of time for this film is damn hard.

As to Predator, well if anyone could have kicked it's arse it was Arnie.

Predator was on today. Arnie was like 40 years old when he made that. Man our action stars are old. That means Stallone is 61 now.

Looks awful. Just like the first one did.

Why is it on earth. AGAIN?

It should be something where no humans are involved at all.

Paul "Weak Sauce" Anderson shouldn't be allowed anywhere near either of these movie franchises, much less combining them.  Painful from start to finish.

Downloading the trailer now...

You know, with how little I'd heard about this film (I didn't even know it was coming out this year until last month), I expected something on the line of direct-to-video crap.

I just watched that preview, and was struck by how much that seemed like what we could've gotten if an Alien vs. Predator film were done after Aliens and Predator 2 had come out, ignoring everything after them. Yeah, there was some stuff that was a little lame, but overall that looks like the kind of romp I would've wanted out of the first AvP film (short of them adapting the actual comic series). On the one hand, I wish it wasn't back-country USA; an urban setting would be far better. But they look to be making decent use of the setting (armed civilians, etc).

I think it'll be worth checking out in the theaters this winter. icon_biggrin

Other than the 'look, the skull is spinning towards the camera!  Neat eh?!' nonsense at the end, I think it'll do better than the first fiasco.  At least it is rated R, and from the looks of it, a strong R.

Yeah, if nothing else, it looks like there will be plenty o' gore and violence and none of the watered down PG-13 nonsense of the first one (and no Paul W.S. Anderson!).

Why is it on earth. AGAIN?

Because that makes it cheaper.  No special effect costs to create an alien world.  Most sci-fi movies that heavily feature modern Earth are worth avoiding because it means they didn't have much of a budget.   Star Trek IV, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, etc.  There are so many examples.  What's ironic is that these movies often do well with non-sci fi audiences and critics who can't grasp sci-fi to begin with.

Star Trek IV 'worth avoiding'? It was one of the best in the series due to it not really taking itself seriously. And having the crew interact with the craziness of Earth of the past was part of the fun.

There's a new AvP game coming out for the PSP this fall/winter, too.  It's third person and you play as the Predator.  Being developed by Rebellion, who did the first AvP PC game.

It was more like Freddy vs. Jason than a sci-fi movie.  Guy with face eaten away by acid, chick stuck to wall with throwing star thing, etc.  Seemed to have a higher body count than most slasher flicks.  Too back in my opinion.  The Predators were supposed to be kind of noble hunters, now they are just another slasher character.

I think someone else (sega?) is also developing a game for consoles.  I've always been hooked on the AVP games and I look forward to reading more about this one as well.

I still think it's kind of a sell out to cross these universes together. Made for some great games, but there's no story there to construct a movie out of. As we can clearly see from the first one.

Agreed. I had a long post over at GoneGold on my love of the films where I dissected each one and how they worked or didn't work in their respective genres. For the sake of brevity, I'll just say I agree with you and wish the third and fourth ones didn't suck as much as they do. I think Alien 3 gets a bad rap because it followed Aliens moreso than by being a bad film (which it really isn't) but Alien Resurrection was just loopy. You can see where Joss Whedon tested a lot of Firefly though if you watch it with that in mind.

I still can't compare Alien to aliens, both are great movies. Aliens is much easier to watch as it's a damn good action flick whereas Alien is just scary as hell and many people while enjoying it the 1st time won't watch it over and over where as the 2nd one is great just for that reason.

Agreed about alien3. I've been trying to make the arguement that Alien3 isn't really a bad film for years and not too many people have agreed. I personally thought it was good.

Hell even Alien:Resurrection isn't all THAT bad if you edit out the last 25 minutes or so.

I mean, how can you not like some of Johnner's dialog:

"Where the fuck are all the army guys!?"

"You're the mechanic. I mostly just hurt people."

----------

However, back to the issue of AvP:Requiem... I'm dissapointed that it's again going to take place on present day Earth and while I'd rather have it in the future on a colony with lots of Colonial Marines mixing it up with our two favorite alien species I'll just have to live with what they give me.

It does piss me off that they've basically said, "fuck canon.  If we give 'em enough acid blood and explosions they'll be happy."

Just go read the original AvP graphic novel.  That was good stuff.

I didn't think the movie was that bad.  I'm so into the Predator that I didn't really care how stupid it was.  Aliens killing a Predator?  HA!

I'll see the second one for more Predator fix.

Mommy, I want to be a Predator when I grow up.
