Thought this was really cool.

Quote
Some people build swimming pools in their back yards. But outdoor pools in Alaska just won't work. Since this particular family lives on the outskirts of Anchorage, they decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3 and 4 year old sons, with smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it on Saturday evening, and the following morning, as mom was about to wake up the boys and have them go out to play in their new play center, this is what she saw from the upstairs window:

LOL.  It was nice of them to build a playground for the wildlife.

So now they can use the playground as a discipline tool.

Man, I love Alaska.  I would totally live there if there was any kind of job doing what I do to be had out there.  That and if I could drag my wife.  Absoutely one of the greatest places on this Earth.

so that's where he ended up.  I always figured he was dead.  that would explain my ability to wear shorts and a tshirt in 40 degree weather though.....

Ive always loved the look of Alaska but not the cold. Ive always wanted to live on an island near the equator. Thats why the other day when I told the wife Id love to live in Alaska , she gave me a strange surprised look. She loves the cold. I figured its beautiful plus theres got to be some great fishing up there smile

The heat, humidity, hurricanes, and giant bugs in Florida say no.  To each his own, though.

I agree.  I can handle cold just fine.  Mind-searing heat combined with ridiculous humidity?  Not so much.

And all the old people.  Don't forget about the old people.

The Heat are horrible, but we have a new head coach so we've got that going for us.  disgust  Hurricanes do suck.. err blow, but it seams no matter where you are Mother nature will pwn you on a semi regular basis.  Tornados, floods, blizzards, etc.  However you do have a point about the blue-hairs.  I was watching the news before work this morning and some 79 year old man confused the gas and brake pedals and drove his car into a Marshalls.

Or even worse, Resolute Bay, northernmost edge of civilization. My Dad lived there for about a year doing research. Seriously, you have to live carefully the further north you go. People have been known to lose appendages due to frostbite.  At this point, I'd rather be sweating. And that's the difference between hot and cold. You won't melt with the heat, but you'll lose things in the cold if you aren't protected enough.

Maybe. Though I bet you miss the Auroras. Alaska would be an astronomer's dream. Dark place, no street lights; just pure darkness, and the chance of freezing your bananas. A lot of what astronomers strive for amid all the light pollution. Cold? What cold? Astronomers tend to do crazy things to get at what they want, including freezing outside for hours.
