Watch it here

Wow.  Just wow.  I actually know the guy who is the head of animation for the movie and created the software for this animation technique (also seen in Waking Life and those Charles Schwab commercials)  and it has come a looooong way since I rememeber him first working on it.  This looks FANTASTIC!!!

I've been rooting for this movie right from the get go. I hope it finds its audience.

Even with the presence of the Keanu, that looks freaking awesome.  Sign me up.

Now here's a question - is this all drawn/animated, or did they just do some really fancy (and cool looking) post processing via a PC to give this world its 'cell shaded' (for lack of anything better to call it, even though it's a really crude term here) look?

Either way... Damn, that's really cool looking. The movie concept isn't half bad either.

Like Waking Life, the entire movie is shot with a digital camera (the one for Waking Life was pretty basic, 'cause the live image doesn't have to be that sharp), then animators literally draw over every frame of film. So those are all scenes that the actors did, were directed to do, and rehearsed like a regular film. Then a team of animators go at it.

I believe it's an insanely detailed and thorough version of rotoscoping, which is adding effects frame by frame over a section of film. (It's how lightsabers are done, for instance.)

I believe there were some insurance commercials or something other financial commercials that used a similar technique.

I suspect they do both.  Let a program handle some of the basic shading, then let real animators/artists handle detail work or entire scenes if the automation doesn't provide what they need.

The book was great, but then again I'm somewhat of a Philip K. Dick fan. This looks pretty cool as well.

Interesting trailer, but I have no earthly idea what the movie is about.

The look of it was neat, but the glimpse of the story seemed pretty 'blah'.  I've never read anything by Philip Dick, though.

But you've seen Blade Runner, Total Recal, and Minority Report, (and maybe Paycheck) right? All his wares, to some degree.

Of those, I've only seen Minority Report, and felt pretty lukewarm about that one.

Very cool....

I kind of chuckled at the fact that it takes animation for Woody Harrelson to finally get a full head of hair again
