Acclaimed GameCube and PS2 role-player Tales of Symphonia is to be re-released on PlayStation 3, a new report suggests.

The Tales of Symphonia: Perfect Edition pack will also include the game's Wii-exclusive sequel Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Both games will feature jazzed up HD visuals.

Tales series boss Hideo Baba teased the Perfect Edition to Spanish site Koi-Nya, and said it would be "a representation of the dreams and hopes of the fans, who have long been wanting it".

Tales of Symphonia scored an impressive 9/10 upon its 2004 GameCube release.

"It may be clichéd, and altogether a little too bright and happy for its own good, but Tales of Symphonia is nonetheless epic, enjoyable, and superbly constructed," Rob Fahey wrote, "and deserves an audience far in excess of merely the hardcore JRPG fans who will undoubtedly snap it up with glee."

Yeah, but what are the odds that it actually comes out in the US?

got the first game on the Gamecube but haven't really played it yet, and I don't remember hearing much about the sequel.  was the sequel a dud?

I loved the first game (though like most JRPGs I never finished it).

The sequel got mixed to negative reviews.

The 1st ToS on the GameCube was an excellent game, but the 2nd for the Wii was a dud.

I'd say the odds are very good.  Both games have been fully localized, so there would be very little work involved in bringing it over.  Also, TOS remains the most popular Tales game in the US, so there's already a built-in fan base.

I guess they let the cat out of the bag early and then tried to put it back in, as they just announced this.  They even confirmed a US/European release for 2014.
