Its a push mower. I was cutting some semi tall grass when WHAP half the blade comes out the left side and sticks in the ground. the blade itself didn't break but the bolt that holds it to the shaft did. About half the threads down on the bolt is where it broke. Now I gotta get our cousin to bring his pick up over and take it back up there and see what they say. Maybe they'll just replace the whole mower. One little bolt. If it had just come unscrewed I could just screw it in. but a piece of bolt broke in the shaft is a nono.

Ok never buy Cub Cadet or from Tracktor Supply. That is what I've learned. I bought it because I was told all about their no hassle repair / return policy. They said 2 or 3 year no matter what just bring it in and they'd fix it or replace it. 4 months later the blade broke off while Im mowing. Plain old grass. You can see where it did it right in my yard. Took it in. Now 2 weeks later they are saying they wont cover it because I hit something with it and they want $32 for the repair. HAH!. Wife argued with them, I argued with them. They just were not going to cover it. In the end they decided if I bring in my payment slip they will fully refund my money...but only after the wife told them how she was going to put a big thing in the paper about them and their 'service'. What a shitty company..both of them. I buy a lot of stuff there. So now they have lost all future sales over a $32 repair. I can go to Home Depot or PetCo to get all the stuff I used to get there.
You just can't trust anyone these days. Lesson learned..don't buy Cub Cadet or shop at Tracktor Supply. That wont keep the next place from lying either though.

As of right now it appears my next mower will be from Home Depot and be a Honda mower. They seem to get great reviews.

LOL I was thinking the exact same thing. Thats what they claimned I did and would not honor their policy. I hit nothing more than hickory nuts in the time I had it. I was very careful with it. Would not even mow the ditch with it. I cleaned it after each use. I was mowing extra tall grass when it broke. The grass was about 18" high and has that steel like grass in it. It had bogged down 2 or 3 times. I was going slow when BAM the blade flew half way out the left side of the mower and stuck in the ground. if it had come out the back i might not have feet now. The bolt had sheared off inside the shaft. I hit nothing. I even offered to let them come down and see where it broke. i was only half done. And good to hear about those Hondas morlac.

That isn't mowing, that is brush-hogging which push mowers are not built to do. You were using the mower in an improper fashion, not surprised it broke.

Not to derail the thread, but the DOT seems to have found that in all but two cases the "unintended acceleration" was in fact nothing but user error.

I missed the 18 inches. HOLY COW. Even trimmed with a weed-eater, the clippings plus the actual grass will be a ton of mass. Not sure it should have broken the bolt, but if the blade is attempting to spin and it's meeting THAT much resistance, a break is possible I guess. That's outrageous.

Without knowing or seeing the mower, my guess is that at some point in the past, you did hit something that damaged the bolt. That day, when you were trying to cut through 18" of grass or whatever, the amount stress that put on the blade and said bolt finally caused it to fail.
If you still had the mower you could examine the blade, which is what I am guessing the store did. I am horrible about running over stuff and will easily destroy the blade from hitting tree roots, etc.

I've got a basic craftsman mower from sears that mows 18" of grass just fine. Gotta go really slow or else it'll stop, and usually have to go over it again to cut it very well, but I've done it a couple times over the past 2 years I've had it and it's been just fine.

As of right now it appears my next mower will be from Home Depot and be a Honda mower. They seem to get great reviews.
They also start at $399. For that kind of cash, and considering how often you apparently mow the grass, just get a lawn service to cut it every 3 months for you.
