As I'm a very important and busy man, I never got to see 300 in the theater. Thus, I'm anxiously looking forward to the release on tuesday of that film on Day Vay Day. I'll be popping into BB on release day with plans to watch in release night.
I will have the surround sound in full effect (I wonder if it's in DTS!?). Might pop some corn. Might watch it in my underwear.
I release that it got a lot of knocks for being overblown, but I am quite excited.
I can't wait to hear: Madness? This is CAKETOWN SPARTA!!! in actual context.

I wanted to be completely blown away with 300, but was actually disappointed. I found it....interesting, but not overly entertaining. Before watching it I thought I would HAVE to own it. Now? Nope.
Hope you love it though. The only movie coming out that will not hesitate to get is the third Bourne movie. I have watched the first two over and over.

Kinda what mikeg said; was never really blown away by it, although impressive artistically... kept thinking this would be sooooo cool as a proper Conan movie though.

I will have the surround sound in full effect (I wonder if it's in DTS!?). no DTS for this one, but early word is that the DD track is still pretty awesome.

While you're at it, hit Rifftrax.com and download the release that perfectly times with the DVD launch.

I'm pretty weak...I only got to see it in the theater 6 times. *shrug* Guess it was just 'ok' for me.
Now the other question - I have both formats, do I buy it on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?

I have 300 Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz all preordered on HDDVD from Amazon and they all come out on the same day. Now if I can just get the cops to give me back my 360 and HDDVD player I could actually watch them.

I think 300 is the movie that's going to sell me an HD player of some kind. Given that the entry price for an HD-DVD player is $170 right now that's probably the way I'm headed. The PS3 at $500 isn't quite as tempting as an impulse purchase.

I think I'll be in the same boat. Blu Ray seems to be dominating my collection due in no small part to the 1080p of the PS3 and the 720p of my on-again-off-again 360.

If I buy it it'll definitely be hd-dvd. The video commentary where they show how they shot scenes would be awesome.

Prepare to be underwhelmed ATB. It's a fun, interesting movie, but it falls way short of the massive hype that continues to swirl around it.

Bah. Who cares about 300 when you can watch the glory of John Woo's Hard Boiled on DVD over and over and over again, now that it's been re-released.

The movie blew. It was a lot of silly moments that were taken very seriously all smooshed together into a man-sandwich.

The Killer is better. More emotional impact. I just brought up Hard Boiled since it has the more recent DVD release.

I've been looking forward to HF, considering I blinked and missed the theatre showing As I understand it the buddy-relationship is less parasitic than in the Shaun of the Dead.

HF is a great flick. it's too bad they've gone and ruined what was a completely shocking scene by showing it in the dvd previews though. i think i heard a collective wince in the theater.

Well I just finished 300. It's not a great movie, but it's not terrible either. I'd give it 1 3/4 out of 4 which puts it in the it was worth the time i invested in it, but I don't care to ever see it again. It could have been much better- but it seems that it didn't know what it wanted to be as a movie. Was it trying to be the matrix? Was it trying to be gladiator? was it trying to be braveheart? I wish they would have re-written the dialogue as some of it was so cringe inducing that I uh...cringed. Other cringeworthy stuff: Gladiator, this ain't. Braveheart this ain't. Matrix this ain't.

You obvioulsy missed a couple of points. 1. It tried to represent the graphic novel. It's an extremely faithful adaptation of it. 2. On one of your spoilers, that's the way it historically happened. I'll let you research which one.

They were brave and bold.
They were brave...and they were bold.
I didn't particularly care for the movie when I watched it in theaters, but it's going to look sexy as fuck blu-ray. And I won't have my g/f sitting next to me snickering about the size of that one chick's nipples.
