TVGuide.com has news about the upcoming seventh season as well as word that a trailer is coming October 25.  Here's the blurb -

Quote
"Set in Washington, D.C., Day 7 opens with CTU dismantled and Jack Bauer on trial. Bauer's day takes an unexpected turn when former colleague Tony Almeida returns. Meanwhile, President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) leads the country alongside White House Chief of Staff Ethan Kanan (Bob Gunton) and First Gentleman Henry Taylor (Colm Feore). A national security crisis prompts an investigation by a team of FBI agents including agents Janis Gold (Janeane Garofalo), Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), Larry Moss (Jeffrey Nordling) and Sean Hillinger (Rhys Coiro), and security specialist Michael Latham (John Billingsley). Although CTU is no longer, Chloe O'Brian and Bill Buchanan are back for another momentous day of shocking events."

I've known (speculated) that they'd bring Tony back.  Killing him off was a mistake as there weren't enough familiar faces left in 24 to carry the series.  Still, that's going to piss off a bunch of fans.

I agree with both of you. I think Tony's death was a step too far in Season 5 considering how many regulars they wiped out. Season 5 I thought was fantastic start to finish and it hurt like hell to see so many good regulars cut down, but Tony's was the one that crossed the line. I guess in hindsight it was supposed to cross that line but oh well. I do think it's a mistake bringing him back but I can live with it. At least now we won't have the CTU chief exclaim at the 11th hour, "Jack Bauer's gone rogue!" Like we couldn't see that coming.

At least they're bringing Bill back which just rules. thumbsup

I don't think he was if I remember correctly.

It's a stretch to bring Almeida back, but it's not totally absurd.  Jack may presume he's dead, but that doesn't mean he really did die.  After all, Bauer's heart has been stopped at least twice now and he's still alive and kicking.

They've really had some great deaths on 24.  Jack's wife set the standard, but Edgar's death was wrenching and George Mason's demise was fantastic.  For Tony to die by injection always seemed too underwhelming given his status on the show.

Tony's the man and all (as much as I love Jack they could have killed him off and put Tony in as lead and I'd still be happy to watch) but bringing him back strikes of desperation to me.  I like the other stuff I'm hearing about this season so I'm hoping that the Tony stuff works well but we'll see.

If the bottom of the barrel had been scraped and then there was something deeper, like a fungus that had actually bonded with the barrel, making the whole thing a virtual 'barrel of suck', then the bottom was allowed to fester again and became more disgusting than it ever could have been in the past, Janeane Garofalo would be the third later of suck in the newly formed, all encompassing, barrel of ultimate suck.

Maybe I understated it. She could be worse.

It's a good trailer but the stuff with Tony makes me nervous:

Spoiler for Hiden:
They better have a damn good explanation for turning him into a villain or make it all misdirection and he's really working for the good guys.

I'm kind of torn.  It's great that they're out of LA, but it's strange that they say that it will be "a day like no other" and then show scenes of some of their most often-used plots, like the mole and Jack Bauer going rogue.
