In their defense, for most of them it was probably the first game of the year they've gone to.

Wait, did the Kings just get to the Stanley Cup finals due to help from a questionable non-call in overtime? I'm shocked and appalled.

If Raffi Torres gets 25 games for a hit during the play, then this guy should be done forever. Oh, Mike Smith, that's hilarious after you tried to lumberjack Dustin Brown's leg off in Game 2.

Yeah, but the difference being there was a penalty called for that. Oh wait...it was called against Brown. IMO Brown should definitely be suspended for that knee hit last night, but I'm betting that doesn't happen. I'm pretty much done with NHL officiating; between all the missed calls, incorrect calls, no calls followed by suspensions and the circus show Refs seem to love to perform during face-offs. I don't see such piss poor officiating in the WHL and even in the 2 AHL playoff games I caught it was better. Unless they attempt some overhaul during the off season, I'm definitely going to shift more of my hockey viewing elsewhere.

Being upset is one thing, which is well within their rights considering the borderline nature of the hit. It's another thing to bombard the ice with thrown objects which put all the players, coaches and refs at danger.

The Kings better not pull that shit in Jersey! Peter Harrold will have to exact more than just his planned scoreboard revenge. He'll be taking numbers!

I'm just amused that Smith thinks Brown shouldn't be allowed to play anymore for a questionable (I don't think it's suspension worthy as there was full body contact there) hit after he used his own stick as a weapon.

It wasn't a knee hit. Brown's knee went between Rozsival's legs and they went thigh-to-thigh. Rozsival looks like he might have hyperextended his knee because of the hit, and it was definitely late with a raised elbow, but it wasn't a knee knocker. I think Brown will get an unofficial warning from the League, but nothing more. I think the refs gave Brown a free pass because they called nothing on Rozsival for sitting on Brown for 5 seconds to keep him out of the play after he popped Smith's glove off.

I now am hoping New Jersey wins for two reasons: First and foremost, it's going to be much easier/cheaper for me to get a ticket there than at MSG for Game 1. I'm going to be in NYC anyway, might as well catch the first of the Kings four victories. Secondarily, your reaction when Brown and/or Richards absolutely destroys Kovalchuk.

The officiating was bad throughout the entire LA/Phx series. Both teams were on both ends of the bad. That's life. The game was not decided by a single bad call. The game was decided by the fact that the Kings played better. As for the Brown hit...watch it. It was not a bad hit- a painful one for sure but it was a good non-call. It has been reviewed and there is no hearing.
As for Phoenix, they have to be one of the dirtiest and classless teams in the NHL. Yeah Kings fan talking here but blaming the refereeing for the entire season being against them because they have no owner, blaming calls on the ice when there team had a suspension, several majors an an actual kneeing non-call in their favor. Yeah go Yotes.
And that frigging howling...whatever.
Go Kings!

I think the Brown hit was a bad hit. It wasn't dirty but there's absolutely no reason he should have initiated a check with his leg out like that. Dumb play that could have injured Brown as easily as it did Rozsival. I don't think it warranted a suspension but it was still dumb and avoidable.
I forgot to mention that Drew Doughty throwing those hissy fits might have been the highlight of the playoffs for me.

Dumb play that could have injured Brown as easily as it did Rozsival. I don't think it warranted a suspension but it was still dumb and avoidable. I don't think it was avoidable TBH. He had a wide stance because he was turning into the hit. Clearly he wanted to destroy the guy, but the leg contact was incidental. He was leading with his forearm as usual. That being said, I would not have argued a roughing penalty at all on the play just because it was so violent, slightly after the whistle (though close enough to be unavoidable), and the idiot with his head down got injured. I think that's another part of it that gets me. You are skating, with your head down, parallel to the blueline, and DB23 is on the ice. Is this a good idea? NO. I think theI forgot to mention that Drew Doughty throwing those hissy fits might have been the highlight of the playoffs for me. I desperately want that in GIF form.

FWIW, there were 2 horrible calls that could have, but did not have an ultimate impact. That said, he was lucky he didn't get a game misconduct for those outbursts.

The first wasn't awful. It could've been interference on the *initial* contact, but none of the subsequent (if the initial itself wasn't interference). The refs whistle may just have been super duper late. The second call was godawful.

I could barely watch the end of that game - with the way the Rangers were coming on it had Cap-like/Ward-ish choke written all over it. So glad the Devils found a way to rally in the 3rd. Only 1 more win needed - Go Devils!

And today it was announced that the NHL is looking into the actions of Phoenix for their actions after the game was over. "After Dustin Penner's overtime goal won the Western Conference finals, Coyotes Martin Hanzal skated aggressively toward a referee, goalie Mike Smith threw his stick and Keith Yandle was quoted as saying the referees worked as teammates with the Kings." http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl-investigating-coyotes-post-game-163010386--nhl.htmlAs for Rozsival, yeah it was a hard hit. Hard hits hurt. Hockey is a full contact sport. Painful yet not illegal nor does it warrant being tossed out of the NHL. I am already looking forward to our first matchup next year. /not sure who to root for tonight. I think I would prefer to see New York but the Devils are pretty hot.
