Man, Detroit really needs to change it's playstyle next year. What's with all the distance shots on Rinne? Never going to get one past him that way. They got lucky with it last time.

Hossa taken off the ice on a stretcher. Looked like the guy who hit him left his skates too.

Clearly, clearly illegal. Fuckin Raffi Torres. He's gonna get a hard hammer as well, I think.

Annnd holy epic defensive fail by Detroit there. Coupled with a terrible read by Howard. Klein had the entire net to shoot out thanks to that show of terrible.

Yeah, Detroit doesn't deserve to win this series with their playing. Pretty awful all around.

Neal suspended for one game, Asham for four.
Neither of those seems remotely close to long enough.

Also, if Pittsburgh wins the next game, Neal should probably be healthy scratched anyway for his own safety.

Well that's probably it for Detroit. They really should've won that game. They got all the calls (intent to blow is bullshit no matter who it's on) and outworked Nashville for most of the game. It's too bad the game was lost on a complete bonehead move by THREE skaters AND Howard. Really? Four guys to stop one opponent on a zero angle to the goal?
Like I said earlier, Lidstrom is a complete non-factor in this series. How much is the injury and how much is the inevitable decline of age?

Neal gets one game off two hearings, Asham gets four. Hagelin and Shaw get three.
Clearly, the NHL is pushing players to aspire to stardom by punishing them for not being stars.
Also - sucks that Backstrom got a one game suspension, but he should have been smarter there.

I think Torres is done for the playoffs, especially since Shanahan seems to favor star players. That hit was just brutal.

I'm sure the league office will find some way to screw it up. Torres should be blacklisted from the NHL for the rest of his career. The guys is a dirty scumbag with a long history of questionable hits. This year's playoffs have been the most brutal carnage filled playoffs I can remember. It's getting to the point where the excitement of the games is being compromised by all the thuggery going on.

I am curious what the ratings have been like so far for the playoffs. I know the Pitt/Philly series has been getting pretty good numbers.
I was fully expecting 2-3 games for Neal and suspension for the remainder of the playoffs for Asham...very shocked at how lenient the league was, (considering how hard they came down on Cooke last year).

Hey Joel, what are your thoughts on the Keith - Sedin hit?
Hopefully Hossa is ok, that was fucking nasty. The officiating was laughable that game, seriously.

I heard NBC's ratings are up 50%. Whether that's just the mothership or across the board, I'm not sure.

One game for Neal. Four games for Asham. Really, the league is just making it up as they go along. Can't wait to see what Torres gets. He's been suspended "indefinitely" until his hearing on Friday. This whole notion that the length of suspension depends in large part on the magnitude of the injury incurred is completely insane. Weber purposely drives a guy's head into the glass and only gets a $2500 fine because the victim didn't end up with a broken bone or a concussion? It's madness. Because Hossa, despite being carried off on a stretcher, was able to leave the hospital on his own, I bet Torres gets 5 or 6 games off. Justice indeed. And LOL at Henrik's sad face. It'll be the same face the entire city of Vancouver will be making soon.

I lol'd, the look on his face is priceless. In all seriousness.. I hope he doesn't play. The series has been nice and clean up until this point (Bitz/Clifford notwithstanding), it would be a shame to see him get run by the Kings (not suggesting that's what they would do).

Man I hate that newspaper. We couldn't just let Pittsburgh be an embarrassment, instead drawing attention back to our own immature antics. Philadelphia fans consistently lament our reputation, but it isn't like the media or our overall collective do much to dispel said reputation. I read an article this morning that said if Pittsburgh players continue going after our own, instead of retaliating, fans suggested just going after Crosby instead. I'd like to just see Philadelphia come out, play decent hockey, and close this series out. But if the referees fail to maintain any level of control, things could get ugly, even uglier than what is normally expected from Philly.

Surely it will go like gellar said, if someone looks sideways at a guy they're going to get ejected. That said, I expect fights and blood.

Completely agree. If he plays and any King so much as touches him and that causes injury, it's bad news. Clean hits can cause massive damage for a guy who has not recovered from a concussion. That's the problem. As much as I hate Vancouver, the last thing I want to see is a player like D Sedin Savarded for the rest of his career.

Yeah, I honestly don't think any of the Kings would intentionally hurt him, but like you say with a head injury it doesn't take much. A seemingly innocent hit could be taken as headhunting. I also don't think the Kings should have to avoid hitting anyone.
Part of me really wants a win tonight, it's not been fun at all and a little bit of enjoyment would be nice, since I'm staying up really fucking late EST time to watch these game.

Been watching from home to save cash, but the bar has a 15' screen and a 12' screen and both will be playing the game. Plus nothing beats the energy of watching with a building full of like-minded fans.

Savard came back too early to play in the playoffs, didn't get hit or anything, but was never the same after that. Just playing professional hockey can be detrimental to your health when still recovering from a concussion.
