Flacco came out throwing the ball for 43times for 300+ yds which was good, but the D that the Ravens are known for almost put up a clunker when it mattered. A win is a win, but the game shouldn't have been as close as it was.
Next up the Bolts..

Sheesh...I'm surprised no one mentioned the Hawks game - perfect 28-0 shutdown of the Rams. Excuse my ignorance -I don't follow the NFL offseason- but are the Rams supposed to be as craptastic as usual this year?

Welcome to your QB controversy PHI!
Vick can't start for one more week. They'll just sign Jeff Garcia as backup for Kolb. Third-year pro Kevin Kolb filled in for McNabb and will start this week if McNabb is out, Reid said.

Well I was thinking McNabb would be out for a couple weeks and Dick would be playing by the time his ribs were healed. Either way I hope the Eagles lose the rest of their games.

On the Urlacher injury - I'm in 'wait and see' mode. A wrist injury takes you out for a whole year? They're saying that right now, but if we are in the hunt after week 12, I can imagine many pros (who don't play wr) saying 'Put a cast on it, I'm playing'. As for Cutler and that putridity last night...Holy Shit. Basically, I have to comfort myself that no one probably got cancer from last night's game. There's my bright spot. Cutler was helped all along the way in sucking by poor blocking and an entire cadre of receivers who looked like they didn't know what the hell they were doing. Don't pretend like Cutler alone was sucking last night, he wasn't. I am enthused by the fact that we gave them 4 picks and yet lost by less than one touchdown. I figured Aaron Rodgers was going to pass for 400 yds on us. Of course, a couple terrible calls (illegal contact, anyone?) really helped the Bears, so my joy there is tempered as well. And now for an encore, we get to play the Steelers who play that defense even better. I just want the game to be relatively non-embarassing. 4 of the five following games are against teams with a collective record of 12-51-1 (.188) last year. So, we're looking at a likely 4-3 or even a doable 5-2 (the Bears had Atlanta beat last year and just let it get away). I could live with that at midseason. What we need more than anything (other than a new OC) is game time for the random nobodies we have at wr and the QB. If we can get that why playing against atrocious teams, so much the better.

Well one thing that I do think the game last night showed, the NFC north is going to be a two team race Vikings and Packers. I dont see anything from the Bears that shows they have a chance to compete.

Did anyone just see the roughing the passer penalty that just got called on the Pats? That's just ridiculous.

You know, I was about to say you were being unnecessarily pessimistic there. EDIT: I assume they will review that. It was hard to see when the ball came out.

The kick returner did so many things wrong on that play - if he shouldn't be benched for not just getting the touchback, the fighting for extra yards should do it. What was he thinking?

In other news, after signing Garcia, Philly puts Baskett in the trade basket. are you serious??? im not even an eagles fan i was chatting with people yesterday, about how promising their offense looked like now that mcnabb had a VERY decent looking receiving corps (including one of the top 5 receivers out there mixed in - even though i would have benched him INSTANTLY after a play he made last year opening week i think?) and im guessing lt isnt playing... because hes washed up, hes done. its sad but true. it was obvious last year he wasnt anywhere near the same guy, and sproles is a VERY good RB. the announcers constantly saying "is he hurt?" is just one of those professional courtesies they give to a one time legend who just got benched

Well that may happen in most cases, but not in this one. They put him on the IR. Chicago's star linebacker underwent surgery Monday to repair a dislocated right wrist, was put on injured reserve and will not be back this season, a major blow for a team with high expectations.

Are you talking about the play where the receiver lost control of the ball when he hit the ground? Incomplete is the correct call there, since the rules have changed.

Yeah that's the play we're talking about. What is the new rule? Dude had possession and two feet down all the way to the ground.

In catches where you can't make a "football move" (i.e. catching in the end zone or while falling out of bounds), you have to keep possession of the ball after hitting the ground.

From page 51 of the NFL Rule Book (as cited by Peter King in his Tuesday MMQB article): If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete.

Finally back from Guyana...jut in time to see the Cardinals defense look lost against SF.
*sigh*
I hope that game was a fluke...but I'm not liking my chances.
