May 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of my registration for Gamingtrend.  I was the 25th registered member (same as Gonegold), so I'm thinking that the site launched in late April of 2004.

To Ron, Fool, and all the other clowns who make this site awesome, Congratulations and THANK YOU!!!

Would love some kind of retrospective! I can't remember when CG became GT etc.

not sure what # I registered as, but it was way back on June 29, 2004, coincidentally my father's birthday.

He's the first registered forum member, which is what your date was going after.  And ConsoleGold as a thing predates the crash.

Yeah, I`m thinking 2001 for the site. Don`t recall when I joined the forum, but I was for sure involved with the site in 2002. I reviewed KOEI`s Crimson Sea. I also went to E3 with CG back in 2003.

I was apparently late getting here and didn't register until June 2004.

Still, 10 years is a long gorram time.  Especially being around a bunch of lunatics like you lot.  Tongue

2004 was the drama-year IIRC when we moved over off Rich`s server(s) and the forum was rebuilt on SMF. Could be mistaken, but that`s why you see those dates instead of earlier.

We had these forums up on ConsoleGold before the crash/rebrand.  I think that we wouldn't have been taken as seriously if we didn't have our own forums.

My first reviews were K-1 World Grand Prix for the PS2, which released on 7/9/2003, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War on the Xbox, which was released on 5/6/2003.  I think CG was around about a year or so before that.  I believe that the switch from CG to GT happened in 2005 or 2006.

I was part of GoneGold for many years, but didn't register on ConsoleGold until July 2005 since I had no interest in consoles at the time. I was well aware of the site from the day it opened its doors though.

I used to hit gone gold every day, it was probably my first stop in the morning. I had even agreed to do some game reviews for the site, (I was the games editor at another site, and writing for a few others) but then everything just went south. Anyway, GT's a great place to hang. Here's to another 10 years - <virtual quaff>.

Yeah, Gone Gold was my go-to gaming stop too. Really sad when it died. I liked Rich and corresponded with him occasionally. Nice guy. Then he literally disappeared, the site withered into oblivion, and the rest is Gaming Trend history.

I wonder if anyone archived any of the old Gone Gold web content. It would be kind of a kick to see some of that stuff again for old times sake.

We became Gaming Trend in the fall of 2004, I believe. Maybe as early as August. I went to E3 that year as part of the team and I remember creating CG cards and other assets for the site. By the time the rug got pulled out from under us we were already on this forum software and were in the middle of planning to make the switch to Gaming Trend, so all it did was really accelerate those plans.

We've got some awesome stuff in the pipeline for this year biggrin Definitely stick around...

[EDIT] Hold up, I'm a year off- we became GT in late October of 2005. I DID go to E3 as part of CG in 2004, however, which may be why I'm mixing things up

I sincerely appreciate all of your kind words.   It's crazy to think that we've been doing this for over a decade and change (when you factor in CG time).    CG was a passing fancy for me in the beginning, but it's certainly grown into something awesome.   Here's some trivia as an advance on our 10 year anniversary....

When I first started Console Gold I was updating each page in Dreamweaver by hand.  I would change each page and then re-upload them.  0_0

May 5th 2004.

I still miss Gone Gold a lot. It sucks that the community fractured after it dissolved. I think it's silly some of the more PC centric folks just couldn't bring themselves to embrace "Console Gold". Silly.

Never mind that our PC coverage now equals if not surpasses our console coverage. One of the points of the rebrand was to remove the console centrism of the old brand.

See, there was a time when Gone Gold wasn't just a forum. Console Gold/Gaming Trend never was just a forum.

I originally went to GG, for the site's title feature.. I liked the lists of when things went Gold and the release list. It took a little while for me to get to the forums...

and I came here on October 11, 2004. I was on Console Gold somewhat before that.
and I've been a staff member of both GG and GT to some extent which was fun.
