I'm really not sure what they are thinking. Tomorrow Never Dies was their biggest hit as well (and my favorite non-Conery flick in the series) I'm really puzzled over this move.

It doesn't really matter. He kept saying for months that he wouldn't do another one anyways; that he was bored, tired, etc. He's also 51 so it was about time to let him go.

Now is the time for Billy Dee Williams to make his move. Who cares about the English accent! His voice is so suave that people won't care.
Edit: After seeing how old he is now I withdraw the nomination.
Now is the time for William Shatner to make his move. Who cares about the English accent! His overacting is so distracting that people won't care.

Screw Billy Dee. It's time for Carl Weathers to step up. Hell, if we're thinking outside the box for a long overdue Black Bond, bring in Wesley Snipes! "Always bet on black!" (goes off to blow up laser, defuse bomb, kill badguys with a pen, etc.) Or The Rock! (does the thing he does with his prehensile eyebrow before going off to blow up laser, defuse bomb, kill badguys with a pen, etc.)

You nuts! Wesley Snipes would be a horrible HORRIBLE Bond.
We need Carl Weathers, Denzel, or Samuel L Jackson to step up.

On another unrelated note, can we PLEASE get Shaft 2 already?!

Or The Rock! (does the thing he does with his prehensile eyebrow before going off to blow up laser, defuse bomb, kill badguys with a pen, etc.) Actually, after watching The Rock in his other movies, I do have to say that he'd make a most interesting Bond. He's a bit too beefy for what the Bond characters tend to do (gadgets instead of fistacuffs), but...

He'd at least inject some humor in this tired old series.

Being realistic, I'm hoping for Jude Law. He's make a decent one... personally I think he's too delicate looking. But hell, about damn time we get a metrosexual bond! I just want Bond to be Bond, like HK-action-movie-lite.

Word, but his English is absolutely atrocious. Just re-invent Bond as a Chinese secret agent and I think we might have a potential goldmine on our hands. And if we don't want the Chinese government or the anti-commies to get pissed... just make it during the Wong Fei Hong period. The enemy can be the British, spreading the poison opium. Hell add Carl Weathers/Denzel/Samuel L as an escaped slave off an American ship who's now working for the Chinese as Q, making modifications to the muskets and pistols and stuff. Oh my god, that's brilliant! 1860's! GET ME SPIELBERG ON THE PHONE STAT!

In a perfect world, Brosnan would have gotten the part back when Moore left the franchise in the 80s. He was offered it, but was tied up with Remington Steele at the time and had to pass. He'd have been perfect for it back then. Even so, I think he did a pretty fine job in the movies he made. Wouldn't have hurt to have him do one more.
I can't think of anyone who leaps out at me for the next Bond, but as much as I liked him as Wolverine, the thought of Hugh Jackman in that role makes me cringe.

Is this the right thread to mention I have only seen one James Bond movie, A View to a Kill? It isn't like I am some teenager too young to have seen them, either. I am almost 32. I just never bothered to really watch them and I only saw the one I did by mere chance.

I can see why you haven't made any effort to see any of the others :?

Yeah, I'd pick either of those. Clive (of privateer2 fame) is the perfect choice I think. I liked Brosnan but the last 2 films were horrible. I've had them in the stack of dvds to sell for awhile now. Tomorrow never dies had a corny villian but it was tolerable, same for goldeneye. They tried to make Bond a bit more darker in the last two, which was good but they were so silly it was hard to watch at all. They've turned to mocking the past films too much.

Ideally, whoever plays Bond has to be in his mid-30's at the youngest (although Connery was younger for the first couple of movies), and up to a physically fit 50 at the oldest. That way he has the savoir-faire to handle himself in sticky situations, but the athleticism to believably pull off the crazy stunts we see him do.
That said, Clive Owen isn't a bad idea. I thought they'd already picked someone else, though, hadn't they? Jude Law is too young. Jeremy Northam would be all right, but I think he's too short.
As far as a black Bond, how about that actor from the MI-5 series (called Spooks in Britain). He's a bit young though, but I think he'd be awesome.
