Stallone in talks to reprise Rambo role for TV

Quote
Entertainment One has completed a co-development deal with Avi Lerner and Nu Image to develop and produce a TV series based on action film “Rambo.”

Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the “Rambo” film franchise in the ’80s, is in negotiations to be involved with the “Rambo” TV skein on a creative level as well as potentially reprising his role as the original John Rambo. Stallone has remarked to the press repeatedly in recent years that he is interested in reviving the franchise and character.

“Rambo” films, based on David Morrell’s novel “First Blood,” center on a troubled Vietnam War vet and former Green Beret who is skilled in aspects of survival, weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare. Franchise launched four films over two and a half decades.

Under the eOne and Nu Image deal, the partners will develop the series and shop to networks Stateside and abroad.

“I’m happy to be partnering with a prolific company like Entertainment One who has a track record of creating high quality programming for their broadcast partners around the world,” commented Lerner, an action movie vet who has produced “Rambo” pics.  “And I’m excited by the prospect of collaborating again with my good friend Sly for an encore in this next phase of the Rambo legacy.”

How would this work exactly? They'd have like new guys codenamed Rambo and they'd go on adventures and stuff?

Watching all of these again, I really enjoyed 2 and the most recent one.  1 was ok, and 3 was throw-away and halfway ironic given the context.  If they based it on the tone of the most recent movie it'd be pretty depressing and kinda realistic.

Rambo is probably going to be a more recent war Veteran, living off the grid and doing good deeds....like Jack Reacher

How could they show Rambo on TV? Nearly every act of violence would have to be cut if it was on one of the major networks. I mean, have you seen the heavily neutered versions of the films on TV? biggrin

Stallone wont be reprising role for TV

Quote
"While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen," Stallone's press representative at Rogers and Cowan tells THR.
Stallone may still be involved in a creative capacity, but "he himself will not portray the character in the series," the rep says.

Given that Sly seemed to have zero dialogue in that last feeble Rambo movie -- I thought maybe his vocal chords were injured or something -- perhaps this will be the first silent TV show.  icon_razz

Know what would be better?

A limited run Rocky TV show.  Like 8 - 12 episodes

Pick up where the movie left off. Show him in his life figuring out how to live his life.

I mean comparatively. smile

It would be better than a Rambo show.

Both options are bad and both franchises should be allowed to die (Rambo) or go out on an amazingly high note (Rocky).
