Wow, what a start to the season.  I was getting burned out on the continuing story arc towards the middle of last season and was really just watching for the monster of the week episodes and the goofy episodes that they always toss in the mix, but I'm diggin' the direction they're going with Castiel.  They're giving him a chance to show his acting chops this season, I'm guessing.

Highlights:  Dean's love of asian cartoon porn is further explored.  The Eye of the Tiger t-shirt Dean's wearing while he works on the Impala.  "I know God and you, sir, are no God."  (The actor who plays Death was just born for that role)  The Grey Poupon joke that made Sam groan.

Hehe, no more Mr. Gruff Angel.

I'll miss that throaty voice this season.

loved the cartoon porn, especially when Dean offered Sam a drink.  the interviews during the commercial break said they're going to be focusing on urban legends this season, makes me wonder if they'll tie up the whole Cas situation real quickly.

oh, and Death does indeed rock.

and they continue with the guest stars from former sci-fi/fantasy series:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Colonel Saul Tigh is this week's disposable cameo.

not a bad episode, with

Spoiler for Hiden:
Crowley getting shot down by the Leviathans

but the end is kinda old:

Spoiler for Hiden:
splitting up again?

Spoiler for Hiden:
Sam just said he needed some time, not that he was leaving for good.  Although considering what a dick move that was on Dean's part, I could understand how this could be the straw that broke the camel's back.

And yeah, Crowley's face as he was just verbally shredded by the Leviathan was great.  Although I have to wonder about the Leviathans.  If they're so powerful that they cause the president of Hell Incorporated to feel a bit worried and want a partnership, why wouldn't they just take over without any hint of subterfuge?  Or are they of varying power and the guy Crowley visited was the head honcho?

I didn't catch the preview (DVR always cuts off healfway through it so I don't bother anymore),  hopefully that's the case as

Spoiler for Hiden:
it feels like they did the whole 'I need time' thing just a season or two ago.

Spoiler for Hiden:
they just killed the god of time.  boys are stepping up! icon_lol  I do miss Bobby though, show feels kind of empty without his well meaning grouchiness.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I have a sneaking suspicion that Bobby's not gone for good.  The episode before last there was a scene with Sam and Dean in a motel in which Dean accused Sam of drinking his beer while he wasn't looking and Sam just gave him this odd look that seemed to say, "what are you talking about?".  I may be reading too much into it, but that was kind of an odd throwaway scene...too odd, if you ask ol' Sherlock here.

Anyone else catch Friday's episode?  I've always had a thing for Rachel Milner as Meg so I eas happy to hear she was back.  But man, her face is swollen, she staggered when walking and she delivered her lines in a sing song voice almost.  Methinks someone has a problem.

Whaaaa?

It's funny because they initially said that Season 6 was it. Now they're going to 8.

So long as the quality stays I'm in for the ride.

Caught up with the last two episodes of the season on my DVR last night.  I loved the Alpha Vampire's promised to "see you next season" at the end of his appearance.   icon_lol

Spoiler for Hiden:
Is it a running joke that the brothers get separated at the end of each season now?

it was an interesting finale.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Dick dead, Bobby gone, Dean stranded, Meg captured, Cas god knows what.  sounds like next season will be them finally dealing with Crowley as he's suddenly the big man on campus with the Leviathans in disarray and the Angels pretty much decimated.

So, anyone still watching this?

We're on season 8 now, but I didn't want to create a new thread.

Every time it seems like they're going to actually end it, heck all the news says they will, but somehow they get another season. Then I think it's going to be bad, but they find a way to make it interesting, even mixing things up a bit every time. It also helps that it's not an entirely serious show, they're definitely not above calling themselves on their own cliches, and making fun of themselves too.

Spoiler discussion up to Season 8, Episode 13:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Well, the whole men of letters thing came out of nowhere. It seems like the writers are really piling everything on Sam and Dean. First they're the destined spawn and vessels for the apocalyptic fight, the now they're Men of Letters, an ancient secret society dedicated to protecting humanity from evil, fighting against the pulp story-like Thule nazis society.

And honestly, I like this change of direction despite it being such a jump. The old formula, after 7 seasons, was getting a bit stale. And it's actually nice to see that despite all the horrific groups and organizations out to kill us all, there was a group in the Supernatural setting that was trying to save us, but failing only to be reborn.

Unfortunately, the writers are going to have to keep the theme of the show, which is the 2 brothers, so I don't see them expanding the men of letters any time soon, if at all. Honestly, I see their whole new hideout blowing up by the end of the season in an arcane conflagration, but this direction is still nice to me. I hope they keep the whole legacy around, and start making it so that by the finale, they're building it into something larger.

I've heard both leads have signed on for 2 more seasons, so they have plenty of time to finish things off.  my biggest gripe was episode 12 (haven't seen 13 yet) of this season:

Spoiler for Hiden:
they made Henry Winchester a bit too disposable.  it would have been cooler if they had let him stick around a bit but to me his death seemed to feel empty and humorously pointless.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Since the Men of Letters were basically on the front lines of the battle vs demons and even used hunter units to fight, it seems the only real change is that the brother have new resources.  And of course have inherited the Men of Letters problems.   Still its a better direction than the early part of the season where they had Sam and Dean whining at each other for 30 minutes an episode, over their choices in companions.  That was getting really annoying.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Sam becoming a Man of Letters while Dean staying a hunter.  the way Henry was talking the two groups seemed separate.

That's what I think as well considering the ending of the last episode (with the golem).

I'm betting we see the brothers accrue a series of allies (like the aforementioned golem) for the upcoming battles.  I kind of like that concept.  they partner with the very same creatures they fight against normally to take on a greater evil.

If thats the case then we will likely see Bennie again, he was the best part of the first half of this season.

That final shot was fantastic.  Can't wait for next season.

I have to say that Metatron was a fantastic "villain" in the sense that he's not really one.  If you think about what he's doing, he's doing it for humanity first...revenge second (at least in my opinion).    Can't wait to see how it resolves though.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Interesting that they show the wings falling off that angel, which means that many, if not all, of them will be losing their wings and becoming human, or something close to that. We'll see how they play that.

Metatron as a villain is definitely interesting. Him in control of heaven is also interesting.

Also disappointed they didn't do anything with the Nephelim girl, probably only because she's a very cute actress and would have made for an interesting persona to mesh against Castiel if they'd gotten together and replaced Meg with her.

Finally, what happens when the King of Hell has a conscience? Crowley getting a conscience, but not being freed from this world is something very interesting. I also like it that the actor that plays Crowley will now get to play something other than generic villain with a British accent.
