Edit: I should add Hepcat, your post makes it sound like anyone who doesn't like this incredibly great movie is simply being contrarian.

No, just you.  slywink  I actually pointed out it was fine by me if you disliked the film.  Bullwinkle points out why you raised my hackles quite succinctly.

Well we all think are opinions are right, sorry if I came across too strongly. This is just like TWD thread all over again.

Edit:
Hepcat, you might want to read this forum a bit more regularly before accusing me of being in all these threads. I don't watch any of the shows mentioned here except the AMC shows, nor do I see hardly any of the movies. Of course with CeeKay gone, we aren't  talking very many threads anymore. I watch about 2 hours of a tv week outside of soccer (if that) and I watch about 1 movie every 3 months at most. I have nothing to say even if I wanted to usually.

@Bullwinkle The Road Warrior was silly in many places, it gets a pass because I was 13 or when I first saw it. Still, if fuel is the main commodity/currency, a truck full might be worth all that. As well as because Australia is huge and they need to get around. They were very simple movies as well, there wasn't even enough scenes with dialogue to get too upset about the acting.

I removed part of my reply (the one you're referring to in the strikethrough paragraph) because I was descending into simple bickering at that point.

Does anyone really think this is productive, or even entertaining?

Lets just drop it.  Please?  I can be a fun thread for those of us who liked the movie rather than a long fight.

Finally saw it. Thought the vision was true to the Mad Max World and was very disturbing and there were some very interesting battles and scenes.

However, the lack of engine noise in a lot of the scenes (while I understand why they did it that way) detracted from the film overall, imo as they were key to the first two movies (never saw the third).

The larger than life characters were fun and it was appropriately crazy/head scratching/awesome/disturbing/WTF.

The Road Warrior is probably my #1 movie of all time with regard to impact it has had on me and # of watches.  I think this was a fine companion and I'd like to see it again to 'take it all in.'

I give it 4/5.

Whenever I see a film like this, I always remember what Ebert wrote about Cameron's Aliens.

Quote
I don't know how else to describe this: The movie made me feel bad. It filled me with feelings of unease and disquiet and anxiety. I walked outside and I didn't want to talk to anyone. I was drained. I'm not sure "Aliens" is what we mean by entertainment. Yet I have to be accurate about this movie: It is a superb example of filmmaking craft.

That last line perfectly describes how I feel about Fury Road.  And while I didn't feel bad after seeing it, I can understand why some might be put off by the bleak and harsh tone of the film.  Miller created a world years ago that he promised could get much, much worse.  With Fury Road, he made good on that promise.

I remember when I saw Aliens in the theater for the first time. Ebert's reaction is totally not what I felt. I walked out thinking "phew, that was intense, but AWESOME!".

I had the same reaction walking out after Mad Max Fury Road.

From a technical standpoint, both movies were about as good as it gets.

It was boring, and formulaic of past greater days. I'm not a fan of sequels, most of the time. Granted, there have
been some terrific sequels, but usually after 2 runs at it, they just keep milking the cow.

It is definetly not a thinking man's action movie.  It just felt like I was watching a Monty Python take on Mad Max.
Silly attempts at humor, ho-hum story line.

Theron was terrible in the movie, Prometheus. And the same wooden performance was given in this movie.

Caught up in the hype, let down by the Movie.

60% would be the most generous score I would give.

Aliens disturbed me. It still disturbs me, but it's also one of the best sci-fi and horror (I don't watch many) movies i've ever seen.  I'm still scared by what I saw in that film.

The hopelessness, the inevitability, the unstoppable nature of the enemy.  It wasn't like predator where you knew arnie was going to win the day.   Characters that I liked were getting eviscerated in terrible ways.  Hudson being pulled into the floor....ughhhh.

Great film. Haven't seen it in 20+ years.

Holy cow!  Mad Max in black and white is pretty neat.

I thought it would just be an edit of the trailer but it is the whole film!  (so I bet it gets pulled soon)

Just Redbox'd this last night to watch it again.  thumbsup

Had to turn on the subtitles to understand what they were saying when calling out the cargo they were hauling for the exchange:

We're hauling Aqua Cola!
We're hauling produce!
We're hauling Mother's Milk!

Sitting there thinking "Aqua Cola?"  Oh... water. I guess he needed to give it a brand name so he could copyright it, eh? icon_wink

They use that same phrase later on as well, when explaining Immortan Joe and his water to the old ladies.  "He pumps it up from deep within the earth. He calls it "Aqua Cola" and claims it all for himself."

fwiw, I finally used the AMC movie pass I received in May -- the "apology" reward for the digital projector breaking down repeatedly during an opening night Mad Max screening back then. It was going to expire Sept. 30.

I ended up just seeing Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation a 2nd time. They won't accept passes for any new/recently released films, so looking up at the film listings, I think maybe 4 of 16 movies showing didn't have a "no passes" asterisk by it.  icon_razz

But seeing MI: RN again for free instead of $13.50 (!) was not bad, I guess.

I really want to see this version.  But I'm pissed that I bought the movie on blu ray when it came out, but then learned that a special edition was on the way that DOES include the black and white version, as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Sigh...this time I'll probably double dip though.  I just can't resist with a movie this good.

I have just decided to never buy a special version when a movie first comes out.  I will rent it a few times for the first year if I want to see it but I wait on buying.  It seems like 99% of movies come out with a better version within a year.

I usually follow that advice, but I honestly thought I'd read that Miller had stated there would be no director's cut or whatever later on.  Obviously I mixed it up with something else.   icon_mad

Mad Max director wants to make a Furiosa movie

Quote
Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has said previously that he plans to return to the franchise in a couple of years, and recently admitted to Entertainment Weekly that he would like to focus on Fury Road's star character, Furiosa.

Miller said that Furiosa was a character with an incredibly rich backstory that they unfortunately couldn't get into because Fury Road didn't allow much time for character discovery. When he returns to the series after taking a break to work on smaller, more independent films, he'd like to dig into her history.

"In many ways, the audience has already picked up a lot about Furiosa, and it's enough that it's left some intrigue," Miller said. "She's got a really interesting story."

Miller added that while Furiosa was one of the characters he was interested in exploring further, every character he writes is designed to have the potential for their own stand-alone film. He used the guitar-playing War Boy as an example, and said that if he wanted to, he could delve into the backstory of that character.

Still, a Furiosa movie is a long way off. Although Miller has expressed interest in doing it, hasn't even started working on the script. However, the director did confirm he was currently talking to the studio about bringing the next Mad Max to fruition.

Got 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.  Bring your own!

Miller's latest interview suggests he was burned out by the location shooting, and endless traveling and delays involved in shooting MM Fury Road and sounds unlikely he'd want to go through a production of that nature again. I don't think it means he wouldn't tackle an action kind of movie again but probably would need to be something with less location shooting weather-related nightmares.

I did pick it up on BluRay/DVD a while back but still have only seen it once, back on opening night. And if you recall in May, the AMC projector went haywire multiple times. So I guess I haven't sat all the way through it yet without technical problem interruptions.  icon_smile
