Didn't see a thread for this.

I am not terribly excited about the direction they have taken this reboot but I like the characters, and I like sci-fi so I will check it out when it hits.  I am mostly making a thread for this hilarious mashup of the first trailer with shots from the classic show

But you really need to watch the original trailer here first to it makes sense.

But it is a couple of years old (CeeKay made the last post in it).

icon_lol That nails it pretty well. The movie reboots are OK as mindless action flicks, but they ain't ST.

I laughed. A lot.

Also, I admit, Too Fast Too Star Trek doesn't give me much hope for a good film. Then again, it can't be any worse than Star Trek 2: We Tried To Clone A Far Better Film And Failed Miserably.

I watched Chappie recently and I had really liked District 9. It made me wish that Blomkamp would take a crack at directing Trek. While watching Chappie, I was just really struck by how similar his style of storytelling and exploration of themes was to original Trek and its movies, both in the pacing and depth of stories without compromising action, something that you really don't get a lot of these days.

I loved Abram's ST films, but I'm really tired of the "Space Maniac" and "Space Terrorism" angles. I'd like some exploration, I wouldn't even mind a Star Trek 4'ish more humane, comedic story focus but please don't just take classic Trek's 4 or 6 story lines and "reboot/rewrite" them.

I guess we'll know soon enough if the claims the first trailer don't really reflect the full movie are true or not.

As action films in space, I enjoy these films quite a bit. The actor's have good chemistry, and they've put together some great setpieces. As a lifelong Trekkie, these are not Star Trek films. I mean, the original films weren't always as philosophical/allegorical as the tv show, but then again, sometimes they were. These are just shallow, though well made, shoot-em-ups.
