this teaser makes it look like things may not go as smooth as Jax expects (naturally).  we've also got Harold Perrineau and Jimmy Smits guest starring this season, with the former sounding like he will be the villain of the season.

I thought the season opener was pretty good.  The actor from Lost who's playing Pope is damn good...but the actor who's playing his second in command Augie is even better. 

Is it just me or does our beloved Ron Perlman actually look sick?  I know he's supposed to be so for the character, but he looks almost deflated physically.

I was shocked at how bad he looked, but I think that's just them doing a great makeup job, probably larger clothes for him too.

first episode definitely came out swinging, but damn, can we say dead man walking?

This is the first season that I have watched this show, so I jumped in cold at season 5. Some thoughts:

1. I find it weird that they are bad ass bikers but have nice well kept houses instead of messy shacks and trailers.

2. Ron Pearlman as usual is awesome.

3. These guys have more issues than Bo and Hope on Days of Our Lives.

4. It's nice to see cussing and sex scenes on regular cable.

5. I can't wait to see Chuck Zito rip someone's head off.

6. Last but not least, where the hell did the kids go when all the grown ups ran to the whore house?

I've seen the complaints about the bikers not living in squalid shacks or run down trailers before.  For the most part, the only nice houses we ever see is Gemma's and Opies.  I don't find it odd that a mother with access to a bunch of money via a gang that runs guns would have a nice place.  As for Opie, he was married for quite some time a woman who wanted nothing to do with gang life, so I don't have any issue with his place looking more like a middle class family abode than a biker hangout.

In any case, these guys make some significant money off their activities.  Enough that they can afford to buy decent houses.

...and yes, Ron Perlman is awesome.  Always has been, always will be.  It makes me glad that tv and movies recognizes a damn good actor who just happens to not be a brad pitt lookalike.

Now I'm a little disappointed.  That's a change I'm not sure I'm happy about.

Johnny Lewis, an actor who played Kip “Half Sack” Epps on the cable TV show “Sons of Anarchy,” has fallen to his death after apparently beating to death his elderly landlady at a hillside home, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office on Thursday identified the bodies as those of Lewis, 28, and Catherine Davis, 81.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it here:

I was afraid Goggins would be typecast as a southern redneck after The Shield ended.  Leave it to the man to turn that weakness into his goddamn strength. 

How can anyone not love Walton Goggins?

OK, after the episode this week I kinda feel my love for the show waning, and think they should end it soon (I've heard there will be at least 2 more seasons though).  here's why:

while I love Ron Perlman I really think it's time to put an end to Clay.  hell, they know he was behind the home invasions, and even if they cannot prove it I don't think it would be to far out of line for Jax to arrange an 'accident' for him at this point.

Not reading the thread as I would be killed by spoilers, but finally got around to starting this on Amazon Prime last week. Almost done with Season 1, and I love the show. Nice thing about being 4 seasons behind is I can watch them all in a row now

damn, looks like it's going to be a bummer of a finale next week.

on the subject I also fired up the first episode of season one last night, and damn does the cast look young.  it was fun catching all the foreshadowing for stuff that is just now happening.

why the hell didn't Tara say anything to Jax about Gemma turning her in?

still having trouble seeing how they are going to spread this out through 2 more seasons.

I don't believe two more seasons is going to be that difficult.  They've set themselves up to chronicle either the final days of Jax, or his redemption in my opinion.  The transformation into his father's enemy is complete at this point.  Can the journals left by daddy Teller help him to come back from this?   Or will Jax's journals give his kids a look into his downfall and serve as a cautionary tale in their future?

I look forward to seeing where it goes next season.  As it stands, this is the most hopeful I've been for the show in quite a while.  I honestly have no clue as to what's next...and that's great.

I doubt that Gemma actually turned her in. There has to be some other witness or evidence. Then again I wouldn't put it past her
