MTV is looking for its own Game of Thrones.

The Viacom-owned cable network is teaming with Jon Favreau and Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar to adapt Terry Brooks' international best-selling fantasy novels Shannara, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. From Sonar Entertainment, the development deal comes with a straight-to-series commitment, so should network brass like the script, the fantasy drama would bypass the traditional pilot stage.

Anyone remember when MTV actually had music videos? I have a bad feeling about this.... they had better not have Allanon and Shea sitting on a couch, commenting on music videos.

This will end badly. As it is the first book is almost a point for point plot rip-off of Lord of the Rings, but I just can't see how a show on MTV could ever do a fantasy series justice. I'm thinking Kevin Sorbo Hercules levels of bad here.
