the game is going to become a movie, but not a big screen one.  it'll be a TV movie instead.  at least it will be on Sci FI channel, so if it does make it to series it'll have a better chance of survival.

I predict them buying a lot of red filters....

Hopefully they treat this more seriously like BSG with some real-world political overtones, and not like most of the crap they show on that channel these days.

This could be cool, but considering we've never had a good video game movie, I don't have high expectations for a lower budget tv movie.

And what does Ghost Hunters have to do with gaming?

more info on this:

Quote
New details were also revealed on the Red Faction telefilm, which TV network SyFy announced it would be producing in April. The two-hour "pilot" will air on SyFy the same week as Red Faction Armageddon, filling in the 50-year time lapse with information on the main character's parents. Apparently Red Faction will feature a budget on par with SyFy's Battlestar Galactica.

word has it the movie is due in March 2011, but I guess that all depends on if the game is done by then.

Will Scy Fy add a MegaShark or perhaps Sharktopus to the story?  Honestly, either would enhance any movie, so you can't go wrong in any case.  Perhaps Sharktopus opens a detective agency on Mars and takes cases that put him in direct confrontation with his old nemesis MegaShark?  That way we get the best of both worlds!

now it's May 2011 since the game got delayed.  They haven't even started shooting the film yet either- that starts in January.

Bah, it's not like Syfy needs more than a week to make a movie!  And that includes writing the "script".  Tongue

I'm thinking they just need to finish dusting off the red lens filter from Flash Gordon and they'll be good to go.

I hope it sucks. Because if it's any good then SYFY will cancel it right as I'm getting into it.

well, this aired on Saturday, and I watched it yesterday.  the best I can say is that..... ummm.... it wasn't a horrible life scarring event?    I can barely remember most of it as it was pretty forgettable.

It sucked. It really didn't feel like Red Faction. At most, it felt like an excuse to set any kind of family drama in the Red Faction universe. I think they would have had a lot more success had they set it during the uprising of the first game, which would have given people the background  and it would have been far more interesting than what they gave us. None of the characters were interesting, so I ended up not really caring what happened to them. There was actually no real background given which viewers were automatically supposed to know, what is Red Faction and what is EDF and why are they at war, etc, none of that was ever explained in the movie except for a short clip at the beginning. Nothing basic like that to set the scene like in most movies, which was odd considering this was supposed to be a backdoor pilot for a TV series. It has Origins in the title. I would have expected an actual beginning story rather than the schlock we got, set 25 years after the uprising. They basically squandered a huge opportunity to tell the story right from the beginning.

At one point, there's one scene where two characters are flying in a jet. There's one character I came to find incredibly annoying and she suddenly gets ejected by the main character because he tells her that she can't come along. I laughed out of misery because it was so incredibly bad.
