[TV] Question about Castle

Does Castle have an overarching plot or is it strictly "murder of the week"?

It does have an overarching plot but its not used a lot.  The show is basically a murder of the week show with a back story that pops up occasionally.  This season theve been more into character growth then the actual backstory.

It has multiple overarching plots, that kind of come and go. Castle and Beckett's relationship, what happened to her mother, Alexis growing up, etc. occasionally one of these will get featured for a bit, then return to the background for a while. For the most part, though, I don't think it is anything that you couldn't jump in and enjoy the show.

It's a guilty pleasure sort of show, if that makes sense. It can be pretty funny at times, and I like the characters, but isn't the sort of thing where you expect the writing to be brilliant.

Yep, you watch it for the characters, not so much for the plots, which are standard police procedurals and conspiracy stuff that only works because the characters are so fun.

I love this show! And like NCIS, its not something I watch for the incredible plots, but for the characters.

As I remarked when we got Season 9 (Of NCIS, that is) on DVD to my GF, its "Like coming home" watching the new seasons.
