In case you're wondering, here's a short summary: based on the books by the same writer who wrote The Vampire Diaries, and with some of the people who work on that TV series working on it, The Secret Circle is the CW's newest supernatural drama about teenage witches. the first episode was on tonight, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I imagine at least one or two other people may be interested. any impressions?

yep, it's got your typical early to mide 20's females playing 16 year olds. it's also got Natasha Henstridge as the school principal- I'd let her spank me with a paddle any day..

They should have called it Charmed: First Class, then there would have been a possibility that CeeKay could hold on to his man card just a bit longer.

lol, poor Ceekay.
OK I will actually review the show. It is really really teenage girly. Kind of a mix of The Craft and The Covenant if you've seen either of those, combined with a "Twilight-y" atmosphere/angst for more girly goodness. I realize this description is not going to win any fans here lol.
Basic premise is teenage girl's mom gets killed (or does she?) by evil witch dude (Gale Harold from Queer as Folk and other assorted shows) leading her to move in with her grandma (some lady I've seen before) in a Washington town filled with vampires, I mean witches. A "secret circle" of teen witches (both boys and girls) are meeting and secretly casting lame spells, but with the new girl there all of their powers are amplified because they complete some full circle of 6 families. Apparently something bad happened 16 years ago and some of them were left dead, nobody wants to talk about it, etc.
Angst begins immediately as one boy (Thomas Dekker from Terminator and Heroes) immediately has dreamy chemistry with our heroine, but alas, it turns out he is the boyfriend of the lead witch. Boohoo. But later he "does magic" with the new girl and almost kisses her, yow! There's a "bad girl" witch who just wants to use her powers, a hot blonde dude with no personality (but a hot body) and another token chick to complete the circle. Oh yeah, and bad girl's mom is the principal of the school, played by Natasha Henstridge, woot! Here's hoping she goes Species on these teens! She and Gale have some evil plans for our young ingenue.
All that said, I found it pretty watchable. The lead girl kind of grows on you, and the rest of the cast is filled with both fresh and familiar faces. There's some interesting back stories to explore and there's a lot of room for fun magic spells if they play it well.
On a side note, they really should move this show to 8pm as it is much lighter and teen-friendly than Vampire Diaries (although obviously they need TVD to be the lead-in).

Reminds me of the "It's Pat" sketch where Keitel (IIRC), writing in his diary while stuck on a desert island with Pat notes "I've had sex with Pat twice now, and I still don't know if it's a man or woman."

Keep up the reviews of each episode. When we get to the point that I like, I'll let you know. Hint 1: I wanna see hot witches gettin' it on. Hint 2: That should have been a b.

the show has gotten more interesting with witch hunters; too bad there won't be any new episodes until January.
I think that if they can get the pacing up to par with Vampire Diaries this could be an even better show.

It got cancelled All in all it was an OK series but never lived up to its potential, or met the intensity of its lead in (Vampire Diaries). The writing seemed rather sporadic and it felt like they changed their minds on a lot of different plot lines and characters. Lots of inconsistencies and shuffling of the side characters (like the grandma and Species lady - was she pregnant?) made for a kind of disjointed experience. The setup for the next season was actually pretty good, I would have liked to see them get a chance to go a lot further.
