Commissioner Gordon is coming to FOX.

Quote
It explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains who made Gotham City famous. In Gotham, Gordon is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has yet to meet Batman, who will not be part of the series.

it is really odd that this didn't end up at the CW along with Arrow and The Flash...

I was initially confused because there was a promising sounding TV pilot called "Gotham" last year that didn't get picked up. I had highlighted it when we were discussing TV pilots for 2012.

'Gotham' fantasy drama pilot to get late pick-up from ABC?

Gotham follows Annie Travers (Megan Ketch), a New York detective who discovers a magical world that exists within New York.

Other stars attached include Lennie James (The Walking Dead), Brian Cox (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Barry Sloane (Hollyoaks).

I think Fox needs to learn the lessons that WB taught us a decade ago with Birds of Prey; nobody wants to watch a Batman series without the Goddamned Batman.

So who are we talking about? The Roman? Carl Grissom? I thought part of the deal with Batman's colorful criminals is that he somehow "creates" them as a psychological response.

Before Agents of SHIELD, I would have thought that too, but an awful lot of people tuned in to see a Marvel show without any superheroes in it.

First episode.. let the season play out.  I'm not convinced the show has legs.

Agreed this will fail without Batman

People love procedural TV shows, though, and they often get good ratings even without a big-name hook to draw in viewers.  I wouldn't be surprised to see both shows do well.

Also, it's kind of going against DC's movie and larger universe plans leading into Justice League, like how they're putting all this super stuff into Arrow.

That said, I do like the idea of normal people reacting to these larger than life things.

If they just make this CSI in Gotham, it could work.
