anyone else looking forward to this new HBO series?  I'm just hoping it doesn't suffer the fate of the other period pieces HBO has done and get canceled early.

I enjoyed it and always enjoy Buschemi, but I was left a little confused about one specific detail:

Spoiler for Hiden:
I made the connection between the booze theft, Capone, and Capone's "boss" in Chicago despite not remembering the guy's name (the "matchmaker" between Rothstein and Nucky), assuming that he was able to take Rothstein's shipment by paying Capone and Nucky's helper to get it at a discounted price, and I appreciated connecting the theft to the wife-beater, however I missed the reasoning for taking out Big Coloseum or Colisimo or whatever his name was.  Everything else tied together, but for some reason I don't feel like his murder was connected to anything or anyone.  He was kind of an idiot and not so good with American humor, but how did he factor into the booze theft to warrant being taken out?

I liked it too but I'm also going to have to rewatch it because that part confused me and I got distracted halfway through which got me confused on another event too.

I don't think they really made an obvious connection to
Spoiler for Hiden:
why he was killed.  Capone did say that Collsimo didn't want them to enter the liquor business so maybe Rothstein thought he had something to do with the theft for that reason.  You have to figure Luciano & Rothstein were doing the same thing as Nucky and his brother - asking themselves who knew about the shipment and who was least trustworthy.

Great show, though - the visuals were awesome.  What was the deal with the baby incubators though?  Would they really have that stuff in the windows like that?

Who knows?  People were whacky back then. Heck, they made alcoholic beverages illegal, so nothing should be surprising.

awesome news for the show:

HBO RENEWS BOARDWALK EMPIRE FOR SECOND SEASON

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21, 2010 – Following resounding critical approval and high viewer numbers for the series’ Sept. 19 debut, HBO has renewed BOARDWALK EMPIRE for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

“All the ingredients aligned for this one, from Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson’s initial pitch, to Martin Scorsese’s enormous contributions as director and executive producer, to the genius of Terry Winter and the expertise of Tim Van Patten, to a stellar cast led by Steve Buscemi,” said Lombardo. “The response from the media and our viewers has been nothing short of amazing.”

From Terence Winter, Emmy® Award-winning writer of “The Sopranos” and Academy Award®-winning director Martin Scorsese, BOARDWALK EMPIRE is set in Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition, when the sale of alcohol became illegal throughout the United States.

Among the early critical raves, People called the show “not-to-be-missed,” hailing Steve Buscemi’s “brilliant, brutally funny performance,” while USA Today observed that BOARDWALK EMPIRE “looks to be the season’s best new show on any outlet.” The Philadelphia Inquirer said the series “stands at the pinnacle of TV achievement,” with the New York Observer noting, “It’s really, really good.”

The Sept. 19 premiere of BOARDWALK EMPIRE averaged 4.8 million viewers during the 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) airing to score HBO’s largest premiere of any program in over six years (since March 21, 2004 – “Deadwood” with “The Sopranos” as lead-in). With additional plays at 10:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., BOARDWALK EMPIRE was watched by a combined 7.1 million viewers for the night.

Season one credits: Created by Terence Winter, BOARDWALK EMPIRE is executive produced by Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg; co-executive producers, Gene Kelly and Lawrence Konner; producers (series), Rudd Simmons and Rick Yorn; producer (pilot), David Coatsworth; supervising producers, Howard Korder and Margaret Nagle.

There were rumours a few weeks ago but now Season 5 has been confirmed will be the last season

Boardwalk Empire, it's been confirmed, returns to HBO in September 2014 with what will be its fifth and final season.

Creator Terence Winter had this to say on the announcement: "After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”

It's regrettable for fans that Steve Buscemi-starring prohibition-era drama is bowing out after next year, especially after what was arguably the show's greatest season, but five is at least a decent run. It didn't do Breaking Bad any harm to say its goodbyes at that point.

I still have half of season 4 on my DVR to catch up with(last episode of season 4 on TV tonight for UK)
