I don't recall seeing this specific show mentioned, but I recently picked up the first season on Blu-Ray and watched the first episode.  It's from BBC3 (not sure what the distinction is between the BBC channels).

Basic concept is a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf walk into a bar...  just kidding!  Actually they move in together into a house that happens to be haunted by the ghost girl, who at the outset can't control whether she appears to others or not, and she's more or less frozen in the clothes she died in.  The WW is fairly standard, changes once per month and goes uncontrollable, and the vampire is tormented daily by the desire to feed but conflicted trying to fit into the human world.  The premiere moves from sweet/funny/heartbreaking to dark/cold rather effortlessly; it's definitely an interesting mix.  At first I was wondering if they didn't know what kind of tone they wanted to set, but I think by the end of the episode I was pretty happy with the whole thing (writing, acting, direction etc).  OK OK I admit I got taken in by the werewolf actor who's incredibly cute and as a WW has to show up butt-naked at least once, but that's beside the point  nod

Kind of a mix of Buffy and True Blood but with a British sensibility.  I believe the second season has aired here and the show is gaining some momentum at Comic Con, etc.   I think it's worth a Netflix rental if you're into the genre.

there is currently a US version in the making for the SyFy Sci-Fi channel

I may give this a look, but I don't need nude lycanthropes (well female ones would be fine I guess).

I'm trying not to read any spoilers but I'm under the impression they added a 4th main character (blonde girl I think) - maybe another werewolf?

This just started showing yesterday up here in Canada on the Space network. Last night was episodes 1 and 2. Tonight is ep. 3.

The vampire seems kinda cliche so far. I like the ghost girl - her need to keep making tea every few minutes was a nice touch.

I admit that I keep waiting for more World of Darkness-type characters to show up. Still waiting for a Changeling and a Mage.  icon_wink

I think BBCA is showing what, season 2 now?

Anyway, yeah they have definitely picked up the level on this show...it is not nearly as cutesy as it was last year...much darker and ominous.

I really enjoy the show a lot and the changes made are really good, imho.  Definitely worth the watch.

yeah it certainly is dark at times as Rittchard said in the first post(certainly a certain scene i can think of from season 2)
Spoiler for Hiden:
Mitchell the Vampire slaughtering (that's slaughtering, not just killing)..a whole train carriage of people

and there are a few sex scenes as well, and quite a bit of swearing

some special effects are also finding their way.while some looked a tad shit, some of them can look quite decent now(they use some of the same tricks as in American Werewolf, from what i have seen in the 'Making off' that BBC3 showed nearly every bleeding night Tongue)

there are so few TV shows i watch anymore, especially British ones,so its certainly something i am going to stick with..unfortunately,series 3 isn't due until 2011

OK, tried watching this (just got it from Netflix, by sheer coincidence it was next up in my queue).  First episode could barely keep my interest, and I fell asleep during the second episode.  I imagine it will pop up on Watch it Now at some point, and I'll give it another shot, but for now they're going back.

ahh, that's a shame....i can at least say it does get better as it goes along, but if the first two episodes didn't grab you then perhaps it wont in the long run either

Slogged my way through the first four.  Had an immediate negative impression when the first meaningful statement from the WW guy is him emo-ing over tea.  It did not improve for me.  It's like a British Twilight without the glowing vampires and no consequences for the vampire walking around in the sun.

Modern pop cultures has ruined vampires and this series helped continue ruining them.  Where is the negative to being one if there is no real impact on how you live your life other than having to suck blood occasionally?

For those that like watching emo over-acting - enjoy.  It's not my cup of tea.

It's from BBC3 (not sure what the distinction is between the BBC channels).

I'm surprised to see you mention a specific channel; I was always under the impression that all the BBC stuff that finds its way to the USA was amalgamated into a single channel, BBC America or whatever.  Anyway, BBC3 is the fringe channel.  It's where they show stuff that's a bit more out-there than normal BBC output, and where they try experiments.  As such, BBC3 is far superior to the others. slywink

Anyway, my girlfriend tried to get me to watch this for ages.  I didn't, but she said it's much better than all the other original drama the BBC puts out (Doctor Who, Torchlight, Sherlock etc).  She really loved it.  I just asked, and she said that the pilot episode is weak but the series quickly ramps up the quality.

The first episode wasn't too bad. Better than I thought it would be. One thing that turned me off right away! I don't know if it's a spoiler but just to be safe ...

Spoiler for Hiden:
How come the vampire can walk around in daylight? At first I thought it was some Twilight BS. Did I miss a piece of dialog?

According to the site for the BBC series:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Vampires can go out into sunlight, but are extremely sensitive to it.  that's the only thing they say about it though.  I don't recall them saying anything about it in Monday's episode.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yeah, I just asked my girlfriend who said that it's just the way in this program.  Vampires are bothered by sunlight and will wear sunglasses or whatever, but they can walk around in it if they have to.

Also, I've just been convinced to watch it too.  Apparently I'll really like it.  We'll see. smile

I haven't seen the new series, but seeing Starkiller in the commercials always makes me double-take.

Here's something interesting - the 3rd season of the UK version is taking place in Cardiff. Torchwood crossover, anyone?

if torchwood has the same writers as the first season, jack will likely have sex with the vampire and the werewolf...then turn the ghost into a lesbian.

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

If it's like the UK version, then yes. In fact,  the US version ghost is wearing a very similar outfit to the UK ghost.

but maybe that's more due to familiarity.

i watched the new episode of Being Human series 3 here in the UK on Sunday, pretty good episode...but i see i may get disappointed sometime in this series

Spoiler for Hiden:
its been 'foretold' that the Vampire will be killed by a werewolf soon...what makes me think it may actually happen is that the actor who plays the werewolf is apparently going on to do better things...he is to be in The Hobbit films

I hope he is to stay in the series though as he is my favourite character

I've been watching the Syfy version, and it's really starting to grow on me.    Never did see the BBC series, although I'd been intending to catch it on BBC America.

I do recognize the Vampire from the first/second season of Battlestar Galactica.

Well, I did start watching the BBC series; my girlfriend got series 1 and 2 on DVD so we watched it all.  I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised!  There's one or two weak episodes and some things that bother me, like...

Spoiler for Hiden:
for a lot of the first series Annie was not so much a ghost, more a normal girl who happened to be able to teleport, which I found a bit silly

...but overall the themes of the show are mixed well and the lead characters are very likeable.  It's pretty good by any standard, but considering this is BBC dramatic output it's nothing short of astonishing! slywink

Watched the first episode of series 3 last night and it was great, looking forward to watching the rest now.

I had to look it up as i didn't know it,however below is a list of things i watch on TV,and that's it!!..so maybe Huw has a better knowledge of TV

Match of the Day(BBC1)
F1(BBC1)
Two and a half Men(Comedy Central)
Being Human(BBC3)
The Event(CH4 whenever it starts again)
SKY News

and that's it,otherwise i am just channel surfing

House of Anubis in the UK is aired on Nickelodeon channel which is a Satellite/Cable channel here(not sure what it is in the States)...the viewing figures i looked up are a couple of million, which is pretty good for a cable channel here in the UK

Yeah, I wiki'd it after I asked and saw it's a remake of a foreign language show. I thought it was some BBC show that's been on for a while but turns out it aired in the US before the UK.

I can't believe of all the US shows out there you watch Two and a Half Men icon_lol
