The beloved comedy is making an amazing comeback, via new episodes – 14 to be precise, a number confirmed by Netflix today as they officially announced the show would debut in May (exact date TBA), with all the episodes being released at once.

I'm slightly disappointed that each episode will focus on one character, with Bateman being the only constant throughout all the episodes.  But with most of the actors having other shows and projects, I can understand why they did it.

What I'm hoping (and expecting, I guess) is that "focus" only means that the story of that episode will be on that character, but that everyone else will still be around and it will feel like a normal ep.

I also wonder if we won't see some Rashomon-type story weaving.

I found this in an article on the new season.

We're not jumping from one thing to another; you're staying with one character," Hurwitz said, though other cast members appear in smaller roles within each episode. Peripheral characters played by Henry Winkler and Liza Minnelli are also returning, and the show will include turns by Mad Men star John Slattery, along with Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter.
 
Each episode will detail what happened to individual characters after the family fled from the law in 2006, when Fox canceled the series after three seasons. "The bigger story is the family has fallen apart at the start of our show," Hurwitz said. "They all went their own way, without Michael holding them together, so they're left to their own devices, and they're not the most successful devices."

So that's good news.

I found an article that described the newer episodes as having a Rashomon feel to them. For example, it mentions a line that Lucille says in one episode, but in another episode it shows the same scene, but the line actually had a different inflection or something like that. I can't find the article, though.

Cross was born to play Tobias.  There's no way other way to explain it.  He became something bigger than his role to the nevernude community.  He also founded a new role within the mental health profession.

Already started to rewatch them on netflix.  I had forgotten just how friggin' funny they were.  So many throwaway lines that any other show would've killed to have.

Hitting a low point at the moment with the whole

Buster loses a hand (mostly hilarious), GOB being married/not, GOB being the father of Steve Holt...etc. George still being in the attic.

Seems to be losing its way a bit.


Overall though, the characters are great, the interactions are great, the writing is sharp, the references to earlier events in the show are almost always subtly hilarious.
