Exciting news - if you put a McDLT in your pocket in the 1980s, it might still look good now. So you don't have to miss fast food items. Just save them! OK, I guess it says you shouldn't eat a 14 year old burger. Sigh. 14-Year-Old Burger Doesn't Rot: Food is 'Fairly Dry' When Made, Says McDonald'shttp://www.christianpost.com/news/14-year-old-burger-doesnt-rot-food-is-fairly-dry-when-made-says-mcdonalds-video-94594/What may be the world's oldest hamburger caught the attention of TV show "The Doctors," who dedicated an entire segment to the curiously preserved sandwich. The 14-year-old burger's bun and meat patty were intact, without any mold, fungus, or breakdown of most ingredients.
The burger caught the attention of McDonald's, who said that the burger's preservation is because it is "fairly dry" in the first place. The abundance of moisture- Whipple is from Logan, Utah, which has a somewhat humid climate- has little effect when the patty is small and the bun is pre-toasted.
"In the example of cooking a McDonald's hamburger, the patty loses water in the form of steam during the cooking process," the company said in a statement. "The bun, of course, is made out of bread. Toasting it reduces the amount of moisture. This means that after preparation, the hamburger is fairly dry."
"When left out open in the room, there is further water loss as the humidity within most buildings is around 40%. So in the absence of moisture or high humidity, the hamburger simply dries out, rather than rot," McDonald's concluded.
Although fast food burgers, chicken sandwiches, American cheese and other products may not rot, they still should not be consumed too long after they are made. This reminds me of a warning on a frozen pizza I prepared Monday: "Do not eat uncooked pizza."

Haven't been to a TB is a long time, but isn't it one of those items that they still serve but isn't on the menu? The Encharito (SP?) was like this for years.

The Carl's Jr. Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger
Had the right amount of thousand island (for those that like it) combined with onion, burger meat, and salty bacon.
Thankfully Jack in the Box stepped up with their Sourdough Jack, which isn't the same, but equal in taste.
They're about the only burgers I get these days since everything else is bland.

The Sourdough Jack used to be my favorite fast food burger. Then they changed it, adding mayonnaise for one thing (which I like, but it didn't work on that burger).
I miss Jack in the Box. Stupid East Coast.

Not menu items, but I miss Boston Market and Cracker Barrell drive throughs. I think the Cracker Barrell drive through was just a test run in my area that barely lasted a year, but it sure was nice.

While they're both available separately, the combo Taco Bell/KFC by my parents used to have a combo meal of tacos and chicken strips.
Miss the A&W store in general (corn dog nuggets and root beer float... mmmm)
Miss being able to order classic chalupas at Taco Bell

Three times this thread has come up from the depths, three times Ron has chimed in about Chili Cheese Burritos from Taco Bell. Each time like it was the first.

Dammit, this thread is making me hungry. I miss the 'pizza burger' from A&W. That was back in the early 80s about. Just a burger with some cheese IN the patty.
Also, I'm in on the McDLT - that was an excellent burger at the time.

Taco Bell also discontinued the Steak/Nacho Cheese chalupa, which rocked. You can still get it but you have to order the nacho cheese sauce as an extra, that way they can charge you more for it.

Don't they still have the cinnamon twists? Always loved those as a kid, although they were essentially crispier, lighter churros. Probably why I liked them.
