This is just really odd. No cause of death publicized yet. Apparently he had just gotten married a week ago:

Yeah, he had gotten married the week before.  He might have even still been on his honeymoon.  Man, I love Ryan Davis...one of the reasons I am such a big Giant Bomb fan.  Gosh, that sucks.   Dude was morbidly obese, though, so could be heart related?

That would be my guess as well. Scary, we're the same age! =(

I am...just shocked.  I'm almost in tears.

He was my favorite gaming personality...and for me the heart and soul of the Bombcast.

Just. Distraught.

Yeah, I was listening to last week's Bombcast where he wasn't on it because he was on his honeymoon (and actually, now that I think about it, the day he died) and I was thinking about how it just isn't as good without him leading  it.

So sad today, logged into Giant Bomb to see if a new Monday show was up and saw the article.  I sat in shock for a minute or two before reading up on the news, he was such a big part of the show with hosting the bombcasts, TNT's and UPF's.  RIP Ryan and know you are missed.

Man, what a real bummer.  And so sad that it happened right after he got married.   icon_cry

Very sad news. Is he the guy that wouldn't get off the couch to play the Wii?

I never met Ryan Davis, but I did have an opportunity to exchange e-mails with him from time to time over the last several years.  I suspect a lot of people did -- especially at GameSpot and during the early going at Giant Bomb, he frequently took the time to write personal responses to people.  Connecting with fans was part of his passion for the business, like he wanted everyone to feel welcome at his irreverent celebration of video games, movies, and stupid, crazy pop-culture nonsense.  He was an incisive writer, a masterful entertainer, and a clear inspiration for many other people in his field.

My heart goes out to all his friends and family.  This is a terrible, terrible loss.

It's actually gotten harder for me as the day goes on.

It has affected me far more that I would have ever suspected.

Here's something I posted over at Qt3.

The very nature of these roundtable podcasts is that one, in a way, builds a one sided friendship with these people, growing to feel like you are just chilling in the same room as them as they shoot the shit week to week. So I don't find it surprising that it is hitting so many people so hard. Ryan was our friend, even if he had never met any of us.

Very nice.  Someone posted something along the lines of Ryan was a friend to thousands of people he never met.

Not to go down that road, but for such a big guy Ryan always seemed willing to make a fool of himself playing Kinect games and everything.  Sweating like a boss to bring us the funny.

The gang continued the tradition of 'Nothing Stops the Bombcast' and posted one yesterday.

I'm not ready to hear it. Maybe this weekend.

I listened to most of it yesterday... they spend most of the time sharing funny stories and poking fun at themselves as well as Ryan.  Not maudlin at all.

Except for the last 10 minutes or so.  That was a bit hard to deal with.

Any fans of Ryan should definitely check out this Cards Against Humanity PAX tribute panel.  Note that the first ~27 minutes are just a loop of the same pictures before the panel starts.

Join the creators of Cards Against Humanity and special guests to remember our friend Ryan Davis. Out of respect for the wishes of Mr. Davis, no toe-shoes will be permitted in the theater. BYOB.

Thanks for the clarification. I went into it moved the scrubber back and forth, heard some old time music, saw the same photos and thought, 'well I guess some tribute is better than none.'  I'll have to check it back out later.

Yeah, the first half of the panel (after that long wait) is different people talking about Ryan and sharing videos and stuff.  Then they play CAH with some cards Ryan had written and then get into normal CAH panel stuff which is also entertaining but not too pertinent.
