Lee Childs hard as nails protagonist, Jack Reacher  will hit the big screen thanks to Paramount.  The novel "One Shot" is already in development and the role of Reacher has been cast.  So who do they pick for the role?  TOM FRIKKIN CRUISE?!   Seriously?   I actually think Cruise is a decent actor but I just dont see him as Reacher.... at all.

anyway heres the link:    http://www.deadline.com/2011/07/tom-cruise-locked-to-play-jack-reacher-in-one-shot-for-paramount-and-skydance/

I've been hearing rumors of a Repairman Jack film or TV series, but I'm a little disappointed that Reacher has come first.  I tried reading the first book in the series and didn't make it past the 2nd chapter.  And from what I could tell from my brief experience with the series, Tom Cruise seems like a rather poor choice.  The first glaring issue is he's a damn midget.  Isn't Reacher supposed to be over 6' and a physical beast?  Yeah, not Tom Cruise.

When asked to comment about Tom Cruise portraying him on film Jack Reacher shrugged, took a drink from his cup of black coffee, and said nothing.

Fight scenes are gonna freakin' take forever.  The baddie threatens Jack, Jack has to go find a milk crate to stand on so he can respond, then he has to keep his balance on that thing DURING the fight...sheesh.

Reacher= 6'5"
Cruise= 5'7"

Apart from that, glad to see that Reacher is finally heading to the big screen.

even if you'll only be able to see the top of his head...

let's hope shag carpeting isn't the main villain in the movie adaptation.

I know nothing about this character, and even though I couldn't understand anything they were saying, that was one boring ass trailer.

So I saw the trailer for this again before catching The Dark Knight Rises again on Saturday. I think the main clues this movie may not do well at the box office are:
-Zero reaction form the audience every time I've seen the trailer in a theater so far. You can hear crickets.
-Nobody seems to know what the hell Jack Reacher is or who the hell he is (I never heard of him either), and the trailer doesn't do much explaining.
-You can zoom in a camera from the ground looking up at Tom Cruise all you want to, Mr. Director, but the fact is he's 5'7" tall, and no matter how much he works out, I'm not sure he's quite ever as fearsome as this Jack Reacher character is supposed to be.

You just kind of want to tweak his cute cheeks (on his face icon_razz), pat Tom on the head, and reassure him he'll meet Wife #4 soon, probably on the set of his next movie.  smirk

I could be wrong of course, but everything seems to point to this being another Knight and Day, meaning a relatively well reviewed action movie that nobody much among the masses decides to bother seeing. Who knows? Maybe it'll be an inexplicable blockbuster and I'll have to eat Crow.

I like to pick on Cruise for a myriad of things, but I do believe he's a decent dramatic actor.  Heck, he's even shown a flair for comedy.  But he keeps trying to be an action hero in most of his films and it's just laughable most of the time.  He really should just get back to films like Born on the Fourth of July and other such works.

Saw it on netflix.

Hate Tom Cruise, but thought he was perfect in this movie (knowing NOTHING about the character).

Really enjoyed it.

5/5.

As a huge fan of the books, I pretty much decided that dwayne johnson (the rock)
would have been a perfect jack reacher.

I think he could have led it to being a series of movies, instead of one and done like tom cruise.

It is not "one and done".  They are working in a sequel.  http://entertainment.time.com/2013/12/10/tom-cruise-developing-a-jack-reacher-sequel/

I had recently read a lot of the Reacher books prior to watching the movie. I thought the movie was horrible and did not find cruise even the least bit believable. In the books, Reacher's physical presence plays a substantial role in many situations and, for me, it just did not work to have a small, aging guy trying to portray that kind of badassness.  thumbsdown

Wow, I can't believe it made that much money, or that it's getting a sequel.

I guess there are those that will see him in anything and those that like action movies with a big star.

Everyone I know who actually has read the books was very disappointed with the choice for lead, though more
than a few of them went to go see the movie.

I had no issues with Cruise and thought he did a great job.  I haven't read any of the books, so casting him wasn't heresy to me.  My problem with the movie was the terrible story where the bad guys make their crime 100x more complicated than necessary, the ridiculous performance by Werner Herzog, and getting over the idea that Reacher, the ultimate man, spends his life moving from case to case with one set of clothes.  The last issue I can get over, the other two I couldn't.  I'd see another Reacher film with Cruise in the lead.  Not that the theaters though.

I didn't enjoy this either... but I'm also not a huge fan of the books. Every time I read one I wondered why the fuck I did that (because I was on a plane and it was already on my Kindle, but thats beside the point).
