So, in a confluence of the LOLcat thread warning adn the unprotected wi-fi conversation, i thought it was time to figure out what everyone is using. Is anyone out there still using 56k? How is the service?
I am on Time Warner Cable and have no issues. Heck after my move to a different apartment, the install guy was able to hook up the service without someone present since didn't need any equipment changes. Awful nice of them since the guy on the phone screwed up and told me I could have a 5p-8p appointment, which the installer said that they didn't do.

Comcast Cable. It's probably the only thing about Comcast I am reasonably happy with. It costs a small motherfucking fortune, but it's fast and reliable. I've probably only had one outage in 4 years or so at two different residences.

I've been pretty happy with Time Warner. They bumped my speed up at least twice without any additional charge, and I recently moved to their premium service which offers 10Mb with a 12Mb "burst" when first initiating downloads. Since FiOS is not available in my area yet, it's the next best thing. I had some issues with them when I first moved in my house 6 years ago, but they've improved steadily year over year.

For a long time I've been on cable, but there's only one cable provider in the UK and they're utter bastards, so recently I finally made the switch to DSL. I'm with a small ISP who cater mainly for businesses. They're not cheap, but their support is just amazing and frankly it's worth the money after years of being with a company who are apparently doing their best to lose customers.

AT&T Elite DSL. I can't remember the last time that I had a problem with my DSL, and their customer service has always been great whenever I've had any questions or concerns about my service.

Cox and Broadstripe - both Cable modem. Although if I get a chance, I wouldn't mind switching to Fiber

Comcast cable, mostly because they are the only broadband available in my apartments. It's not terrible service, it's just expensive.

Cox&Home. And I'm in one of the rare locations in the US that actually has a choice, too (Qwest DSL).
BTW - you might want to include a satellite option up top.

DSL since I moved into an apt. also when i lived my parent's road runner went down so much, it was ridiculous. att and has gone down once and their customer support was a lot more helpful even at 2am than road runner ever was. now hurry up and bring the whole uverse package here.

See, that's why there's that "Other" option. That and carrier pigeons.

I use Qwest (7mbps DSL). I have free internet at my apartment, but using it is like using 56k. There is also cable available but Mediacom have some severe node issues in town (as in never upgrading them), so cable speeds drop through the floor during the evening.

Yer just jealous. I am! When I moved into my house (almost 12 years ago) all I had available was dial up, and it wouldn't go past 26.4K on a good day. After many others had cable Internet available, it finally came to my neighborhood and I jumped on that bandwagon ASAP! Just over a year ago Verizon came through and laid down fiber, and I switched and now pay less and get faster service! It rocks!

Comcast Cable for me. They're rather expensive, but are fast and I've never once had a problem with the service. Well, except the time my father-in-law hit the cable with the trenching machine...

Bright House cable, central Florida. 15 MB down, 2 MB up. Excellent customer service and almost no outages in 5 years. I get between 1800 and 2000 k/sec downloads

With 64 responses and not one 56k response, I think we can sound the death knell of the 56k warning. Heck, with a poll even a dedicated lurker could silently sound off.

We use AT&T DSL, and we're pretty happy with the service. We got a deal with our phone and satellite with it too, so we got a pretty good deal overall. The messed up the installation because they did it at the wrong address, so we got some months for free because of how long we were without Internet service.
