Also I just looked at the Bengals schedule and it's awful. We got the AFC East this season. Going to be really rough.

Today niners play the chargers. I wont be watching live due to going to a charity event for Cystic Fibrosis.
I don't think I'll miss much since the last games is usually the scrubs playing for a roster spot.

Big Ben just got reinstated for week 5 against Cleveland, so your task got a little bit tougher. Although he could be rusty after that month off, especially since he's barred from being near the team.

Is it too much to ask to beat Indy at least 1 time this season? The Texans were SO close to beating them both times last year...
That, and beat the Cowboys again...
I want to see the Texans make it to the playoffs. They have the talent in place to get there. Now, they just have to play like they did against the Cowgirls last Saturday for 16 games.

Which QB would you go to war with?Choice quotes: It's always fun when a QB sucks, but especially when fans are in deep denial and say things like, "If he had time to throw, I think he'd have a chance to be good" (like Bills fans do with Edwards). The case for rooting for Jake in Cleveland: It's like watching someone trying to put his life back together after committing an accidental homicide and serving the mandatory prison sentence. Except in this case the accidental homicide was of the entire Panthers fan base. A legitimate 2010 fantasy sleeper until everyone started pimping him, causing Kolb to make history: Without playing a down, he became overrated for being underrated. When he stunk against the Chiefs last weekend, every Philly fan remembered, "Oh yeah, we have no idea if this guy can be half as good as McNabb was." The good news for Kolb: Philly fans are famously patient and supportive. Donovan McNabb, Redskins Put it this way: If the ignominy of getting traded within his division doesn't inspire one of his greatest seasons, then maybe he wasn't so great to begin with.

Matt Leinart cut by the Cardinals. How many millions did they waste drafting that guy?

About the same as was lost on Ryan Leaf.
Leinart signed a 50.8M 6-year contract. Average salary was 6.75M/year with the higher annual salaries at the back end. Only 14M was guaranteed with ~12M of that as his signing bonus. The rest of the "guaranteed" part comes from meeting specific conditions. Next season, Leinart's salary was scheduled to increase to ~5M.
Cutting him now, the Cardinals save 2.485M in salary and don't have to worry about eating the rest of the signing bonus "against the cap" because there is no cap this season.
Since they paid him for 3 seasons, say his salary was the 2.485M for those three seasons. Let's be generous and give him the full 14M in guarantees. Works out to only paying 21.46M of a 50.M contract. Would not be surprised if this decision was more financially based than play based given the history of the Bidwill's and how much they love to keep their money.

It has begun. Freedom from chores on Sunday, ownership of the tv without any house hunters/desperate housewives/so you can think you can dance/ crap. For the next 5 months, Sundays we own the TV. Where as a nation we all root for the niners.... I mean our teams, in hopes of at least making to the playoffs A time where it's ok to sit on the couch from 9am to 9pm without getting off of the couch except only to pee or restock on beer and chips. IT'S OPENING WEEK OF THE NFL, LET US ALL REJOICE TOGETHER AND BE AS ONE! I've been ready since Feb. Considering the state of the Broncos I'm not really looking forward to this year. I mean, wtf, Elvis Dumervil is the NFL sack leader in 2009, signs a fat contract in the summer, and then 2 weeks later tears his pectoral muscle. Out for the year.

Just bought a new 42" plasma TV last night in preparation for football season (replacing my 7-year-old rear projection behemoth that was taking up half of my front room). Picking it up this afternoon, and can't wait to watch the game tonight!

NFC West is the Niners to lose! Will Smith choke?!??!?!?!?!? You are probably right So many variables. Will the secondary play as well as last year? Will three new pieces on the o-line (with the Center out for some time) not suck? Will anyone important get hurt? Will Singletary finally lose the team? The Seattle game is a must win. That team is terrible. You sure as fuck aren't going to beat the Saints 1 week later. Starting off the season 0-2 = season ovar. Hooray for football.

0-2 with Singletary's coaching style = SEASON OVAR.
You're right about the division being utter crap though.

I am excited. Can't wait to see how Sam Bradford looks against the Cardinals and if the Rams meaningless preseason stuff can carry over into the regular season. Dominant time of possession in the supposed Game 3 "dress rehearsal" for the season was a stunning thing to see from the Rams. True, the Rams defense will still probably suck and they will probably wind up 4-12 or something. But the future with Bradford at QB looks very bright.
And to anyone thinking Bradford's shoulder is an issue - he took a hit in his first game where a defender drove him into the ground on the bad shoulder. He bounced right up and has looked outstanding most of the preseason. No injury worries for now.

Saints didn't look too explosive on offense, but Favre looked awful. I think it's going to be a different season for Minnesota. Nice start to the season!!

The Vikings defense essentially played the same game vs the Saints as in the NFC Championship game.
Minnesota has a very good defense and no one is going to look explosive against them. Their issue - will the offense produce enough to win games when their defense limits opponents like they did last night.
Saints last night - 308 total yards Saints in NFC Championship game - 257 total yards
The reason for the disparity in scoring when comparing the two games: 1) Saints didn't get 5 turnovers. 2) Favre is not even close to the level he was playing last season and it shows 3) Chester Taylor being gone. Adrian Peterson's backup is awful, so when he leaves the game, defenses don't have to stack the box and can focus on stopping the pass.

Falcons are trying to give the game away. Thankfully, Jeff Reed missed the game winner. I'll keep my fingers crossed for OT. In other matters, I can't believe Stafford got knocked out. Shaun Hill hasn't been able to do a thing. I hope Stafford's injury isn't serious. I was really hoping for big things for the Lion's offense this season.
