I saw a commercial during the HoF game last night. The whole Senor Chang thing had me cracking up. A definite watch for me and I have already started the pilot preview.

That was terrible.
Joel McHale is a decent actor; but the lines are nowhere near as good as the writing on the soup... and the rest of the cast just does not cut it for me. Chevy Chase has talent, I know - but he was pretty much unused in the pilot. Everything else just feels formulaic, boring and uninspired. And the setting just felt....... well..... not like college ever did.

At least it won't be the worst show this fall. I'm convinced that CBS' Accidentally on Purpose looks like a candidate for stupidest formulaic sitcom ever (and I like Jenna Elfman).

Watching the show now. First time I've seen or heard of it. Pretty funny though. Really offbeat which i like.
EDIT: Good lord! Chevy Chase looks old. Now I haven't really seen him in much of anything since Caddy Shack and Vacation but wow.

I really like the show. It does remind me of community college, and I think they have an interesting assortment of characters. The professors are all fairly funny, too -- particularly from the third episode, the professor who thought he was Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society.

... Wow. I said that about Community????? I've never been so disappointed in myself for being pre-disposed to hating something. Community has become my favorite show on TV now (surpassing Chuck) and Abed is my favorite character on television in the history of ever. I guess I didn't "get it" when I watched the first episode. Episodes like the paintball episode, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas, and last night's inspired and brilliant "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons" episode have me eating my words. From Chang in full drow makeup, to "i attack him with my... additional notes" to the surprisingly detailed description of Annie (as hector) and the elf maiden... this episode was hysterical from start to finish.

When she put up two, then three, then four fingers and her eyes went all wide, I nearly fell out of my chair. Agreed that this show is pretty much the best thing on TV right now... last night's episode was truly inspired.

Best line: "You're the AT&T of people."
Really good episode.
And Larraque, don't beat yourself up. I don't think the writers "got it" at first, either. Over time they realized things like the fact that Britta is kin of annoying. Where they showed their cleverness, though, is that they used that fact in a self-aware way to really elevate everything about the show.

"It took me 15 years to get that sword!" "I hump it." Chase owned that episode the moment he walked in that room. I have to say, this was CC's finest episode to date. He's been the slowest to fit in the groove, IMO, but he was really at the top of his game here. I haven't been watching this but I'm going to have to make it a point to catch the D&D episode on Hulu.
Also go back and find "The Bottle Episode" where someone steals Annie's pen. One of their best ever. It's easy to talk about Community's unusual cleverness when they pull shit like this.

I guess that's from links on the side bar on the site (though I didn't see anything except ladies in undies). There's nothing inappropriate in the link itself. It ISFW, so no need to label it. Anyway, I've linked directly to the YouTube clip, instead, in case others have problems.

Unfortunately when it comes to workplaces and web filtering, the whole page and what the page links to is taken into consideration. Thankfully at my workplace right now we just get a warning but no one is monitoring it that I know of.

I was really hoping this episode was going to be good, especially after hearing the opening narration. Then I saw Chang sitting at the table as a drow (clarifying that he wasn't a racist, and was in fact a dark elf) and my love for the show reached new levels. I rewound that scene just so I could point out to my wife the hilarity of Chang being a drow, and the writers actually knowing what that was, which was mostly lost on her...other than the enjoyment of watching me having a nerdgasm.
This episode was awesome. There is no other sitcom that can touch this show right now.

This season of Community has probably been the most creative season of any show I can remember in a long time. The zombie episode and last night particularly stand out for me as memorable, as well as the Christmas stop-motion episode. I do wish they were doing more with Chang and less with Pierce though.

For some reason, the subtitles on my tv read "Trau" when Chang announced he was a dark elf. Did he actually mispronounce it or was it just the goofy subtitling (I like to leave on subtitles for shows that have proven to have quick, brilliant banter that I might miss otherwise...Community being one of them).
As for more Chang, I think the writers are being smart. As I noted on OO, let's not have him turn into an Urkel. He's obviously a fan favorite, but let's keep him around by not making folks sick of his frantic brand of humor. As it stands, when he appears I know I'm going to laugh out loud (the episode in which they reveal after a lengthy group discussion that Chang has been laying on top of a nearby bookshelf listening to them the entire time springs to mind immediately).

Excellent take on the routine, second season Flashback Episode most sitcoms drop on audiences. Leave it to Community to make what should have been a crap episode into one of its better offerings.

We watched that right after 30 Rock actually had a real clip show (which made me very disappointed). Community's was great, but still not as good as the second episode of the Clerks: The Animated Series (which also managed to get the characters trapped in a freezer, killing two cliches with one stone). Here's the ep pt1 pt2 pt3
