Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb, who combined to put a new spin on the Spider-Man movie franchise this summer, will return for the sequel. The Amazing Spider-Man, which rebooted the franchise just five years after Sam Raimi concluded his trilogy with Tobey Maguire, grossed more than $750 million at the global box office. “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker,” said Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, in a statement.

The new adventure, which will begin shooting in early 2013, is already pegged for release on May 2, 2014. Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe) wrote the screenplay, based in part on a draft from The Amazing Spider-Man scribe, James Vanderbilt.
Emma Stone, who played Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy, remains in talks and “is expected” to return to the franchise.

While i wasn't mega sold on the first one,i am certainly still looking forward to this

Shailene Woodley lined up to star as Mary Jane Watson

UPDATED: Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson, the perennial red-headed love interest of Peter Parker in the Spider-Man comics.
Shailene Woodley, the actress who broke out in George Clooney's The Descendants, is in early talks to join Andrew Garfield in Columbia’s Spider-Man 2, THR has confirmed.

Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson, the perennial red-headed love interest of Pater Parker in the Spider-Man comics. The role was previously played by Kirsten Dunst in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy.
Columbia just closed deals with Marc Webb to return to the director’s chair after this summer’s web-head reboot, Amazing Spider-Man, grossed $752 million worldwide. The studio also closed deals with Garfield to reprise the title role and Emma Stone to return as Gwen Stacy.

I didn't bother to go see it either, but now want to. Best Buy has been playing the BluRay trailer on a loop recently and it looks good. I'll be watching it soon.

Chris Cooper has joined the cast of Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man sequel as Norman Osborn.

The Academy Award winner will play the head of Oscorp in the upcoming sequel, opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, reports Variety.

Norman is portrayed in the comics as a mentor-turned-enemy of Peter Parker and as the villainous Green Goblin, but it is unclear if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will follow that route.

The role was played by Willem Dafoe in filmmaker Sam Raimi's previous Spider-Man trilogy.

Dane DeHaan was cast as Norman Osborn's son and Peter Parker's best friend Harry Osborn in early December.

Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti have also joined The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the film's villains Electro and the Rhino.

Shailene Woodley will be appearing in the Marvel sequel as Peter Parker love interest Mary Jane Watson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in cinemas on April 18, 2014.

and nothing has been said about the Venom rumour since that picture of a Morgue Drawer was teased,it may of not been Venom or maybe misinformation

Absolutely worst part of the original movie.  If we needed a reboot for anything, it was to get a good version of the Green Goblin.

Of course, maybe he'll be like Curt Connors in the original films, and he'll only appear in human form.  Be a fair trade.
