That could pass for his daughter. What have we done? Seriously, if Luc Besson were directing it (The Professional, the original La Femme Nikita, etc.) I'd be excited. He's co-writing and producing though. Even when I watch a Besson-directed film and I don't understand what the bleep is going on (see The Fifth Element -- saw it in theaters, on cable, on DVD, still don't know what the bleep it's about), it's still exciting to watch. While I got some yucks from Taken on cable, it seemed a little ridiculous at times. It could've been a comedy if they tweaked it just a bit, with Neeson's character walking into rooms and saying "If you don't return my daughter safely, I'll kill everybody in this room. Just using my left pinky..." I never sensed he was physically vulnerable in the movie. He'd just walk into a room, everybody dies but him, and he moves on. I guess I root more for protagonists who get their butts kicked but keep fighting (Indiana Jones, Batman, etc.). Maybe in the 2nd film, he does have a hair of vulnerability. Maybe he has to use his index finger to kill everybody in a room. P.S. Am I getting carried away with italics? Perhaps I'm using them too much. It's something I should maybe consider...

Walk in, neutralize the threat and leave.

But the realism of the violence is one of the things I really loved about it - in real life, people don't take twenty blows to the head and then fight back and keep going. The way he put people down so hard and fast is how it goes in real life - if you're good and playing for keeps, fights are short, brutal, and often end with only one person taking real damage. Not saying that's the way it always goes, but very frequently so.

So his plan of attack is:
1. Rent unfurnished apartment. 2. Buy one chair. 3. Sit.

In the first movie, Liam Neeson punches all of Europe. In this movie, he punches Asia.
Next, the WORLD.

Well the dude is 60. He's not as spry as he once was and all that running, jumping, and punching tends to tucker one out. Brilliant Strategy Plan: Making the bad guys come to him while he has a nice sit down and a light nosh. Backup Strategy Plan: Pursue and engage criminal element from the comfort of his Hoveround mobility chair.

My only issue with Taken is that it had so many scenes Neeson clearly could no longer do on his own physically speaking. I don't blame the actor, I kind of blame the screenplay for putting the actor into so many situations where he had to have a stuntman or body double. I'm not just talking stunts -- I mean, in some cases, they clearly had to use a double for Neeson just to show him running fast down a street or outside the airport. At times it reminded me of the Naked Gun movies where, poking fun, they'd clearly have a stunt double who barely resembled Leslie Nielsen doing things. Now clearly, I'm out of shape, and they'd have to do the same for me. I'm just saying it's a little hard to suspend disbelief when every other scene is clearly not the actor. I hope the sequel remains exciting while not constantly forcing the use of stuntmen and younger body doubles, esp. for stuff like running down a street. I'm not saying it has to be Neeson on a chair swatting people , just be realistic about what someone his age is going to physically do, even if in top notch shape.
