John Byrne answered the shaving question back in Man of Steel by showing him using heat vision and a Kryptonian Mirror.

Nokia has their own trailer now.

I'm getting a bit worried about the story after seeing some elements of the superman mythos in places I wouldn't expect them to be...but it could turn out that the explanation for those things is sound.  I'll reserve judgement until then.

hmm the ..
Spoiler for Hiden:
Jor-El seemingly still being alive is a bit worrying(is that the part you meant Hep?)

However,i have just watched Superman The Movie again and Superman is in constant touch with his father(Brando) through the Fortress of Solitude crystals,Jor-El giving his son advice, perhaps this is a similar thing, and perhaps doing it in its own way

iT was not recorded messages,it was as though Superman was speaking to his father, even though Jor-El had been dead for "many thousands of our years"

as we saw in Donner's version (and others) Kryptonian technology could create pretty reasonable holograms.  so I'm not panicking just yet.

you know i think 1978(Popular culture section) is the one i still prefer, but 2013 is very good as well(still not entirely sold on the colours though,it's still a little 'evil Superman' from Superman III for me..but not as much as 2006 version is)

I'm with you on the colors of the new one, mo.  The design is pretty good, I have to say (can't say the same for the rest of the suit, though).

For me, I settle somewhere in the '44-'86-'93 range.  Reeves Supes is my go to as far as portrayals go, but the logo is thinner and sloppier than I remember.

Christopher Reeves completely nailed the sincerity in Clark Kent/Superman's sense of unerring morality and small town ethics (or at least the small town ethics we would LIKE to believe exists) without making it cheesy and cornball.  He will always be my favorite for that reason.

can't agree enough with Christopher Reeve(EDIT:I mean agree with you that is,Hep Tongue),I have probably said this before but with me just rewatching the first movie again, there is a part where Clark decides -just for a minute or so-to tell Lois that he is Superman,he takes off the glasses and stands up straight and it's that point for me when it hit home that the two parts were played by the same person

From seeing the trailers,it looks like Henry Cavill has the part of Superman absolutely spot on.....but we have not seen that much as him as Clark,as Daily Planet Clark that is,and that will be where he really wins the role for me..not just Superman or not just Clark but both

I have only seen pictures of Clark(again,Daily Planet Clark) for Man of Steel without glasses...so does he not have glasses in this one?

Sure the glasses were a shit disguise

but instead of Clark Kent, that's just Superman in plain clothes on a bike icon_confused

or Clark Kent-I have just done my Whites wash and i'm quite happy

It's annoying, but it's inevitable.  Product placement and tie ins are only going to get more prevalent.

9.0 from IGN:

Amazing
Rebooting the DC hero in epic sci-fi style, Man of Steel is the action-packed Superman film you've long wanted to see.

debating on whether to see the midnight showing for $4 or to wait and see if they'll be offering the 3D version for $6.

Collider's main reviewer, who hates nearly everything, gave this a B- and raved about its spectacle and action, and then whined about "Superman being an empty suit" in the film for several paragraphs without really explaining what he means. Super Hero Hype gave it 8/10 with complaints limited to supporting characters getting short shrift -- imho that's kind of par for the course with super hero origin films.

From the early reviews I've read so far, the 3-D really seems to add nothing but cost to this. That said, many theater complexes only show stuff like this in 2-D in their smallest theaters.

Supposedly a sequel for this has already been "fast tracked," with Snyder (director) and David Goyer (writer) returning. I'm sure a 2nd film would get supporting characters more involved and fleshed out.

While I wait to go see this movie, here are some fun facts you probably didn't know about Superman and its creators!

http://io9.com/super-weird-facts-that-you-probably-didnt-know-about-s-512395429

Quote
7) Superman caused a disagreement between Einstein and Asimov

An MIT class sent Superman editor Mort Weisinger a letter form Albert Einstein, asserting that not even Superman could move faster than the speed of light. But Weisinger consulted his "good friend" Isaac Asimov, who responded that "Professor Einstein's statement is based on theory. Superman's speed is based on fact."

I have to admit, I didn't know most of those.

I did know that George Reeves had to be sewn into his suit and needed a martini by the end of the day, but did not know he'd tell people to shit in their hats.  Love that.

I find it amusing that the article pokes fun at how ridiculous the idea of Superman meeting Kojak in Puzo's script was, but a cameo from Rex Reed seems perfectly natural.

hmm,i have heard that fact about the cast of the original Star Trek...i wonder if they all(Star Trek cast and Reeves) had to be sewn in,or it's perhaps an urban myth of some sort

The few reviews thrown in my face on Google while looking for other things are mostly in the "good not great" realm. Actually, a few I've skimmed remind me a lot of reviews for Batman Begins in 2005.

Really, not necessarily a bad thing unless you're Warner Brothers and were starving for The Dark Knight type buzz/box office. Franchise reboots have to start somewhere afterall.  icon_smile

so, in order to prepare for Man of Steel I decided to finally see the Donner Cut of Superman 2.  wow, it was like a whole new movie.  it was great up until the end, when it definitely stumbled IMO:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Superman does the whole spin the world back to turn time back again really was dumb.  to top it off they added the whole scene where he goes back to the diner to fight the bully again.  since they reused the old footage it was obvious they remembered him and the fight took place ('I just got this place fixed!'), but if he turned back time it couldn't have.

I loved the way they had Lois finally get the truth about Clark and Superman.  According to one of the extras the scene was actually the screen test for Kidder and Reeves, and they cleaned it up to use for the new cut.

That screen test is one of the extras on that disc, IIRC (or the first one if not).  It's easy to find online, too.

I loved the way they had Lois finally get the truth about Clark and Superman.  According to one of the extras the scene was actually the screen test for Kidder and Reeves, and they cleaned it up to use for the new cut.

I am up to the 4th disc last night in my Superman collection which is still the makings off the first film, which of course means the first two films really as they were shot at the same time(I just need to watch Superman and the Mole Men and the Superman Cartoons and then i can move onto Superman II)

I have seen the Donner cut before, and i have listened to the commentary as well

The whole world spinning around WAS actually meant to be at the end of the second film where you saw it,but because they were running behind(a year and ran out of money),they used the end of the second film on the first film and left the second film half/3 quarter finished(until Richard Lester would take over),with the plan to come up with something to replace it at a later date

It is a really cool interesting cut though, all the Marlon Brandon Scenes(which were totally cut in Dick Lesters version for Susannah York(Supemans Mom)for some reason) was puzzling why they were cut...and the newly instated Brandon scenes gave Bryan Singer his theme for Superman Returns, the Father becomes the Son etc etc...Superman Returns was a direct sequel to Superman II:The Donner Cut

Richard Lester rang up Richard Donner and asked him if he wanted to share directors credit as he felt guilty because it was basically Donners film,So Donner started to watch the film Lester had cut,got to the scene in Paris with the bomb, rang him up and said "NO" icon_lol

I can't remember the new scene about how Lois got it out of Clark, but i saw all the screen tests last night, was it with the blank in the gun?

The original way with Clark tripping up over the tiger rug and putting his hand into the fire didn't really make any sense, why would Superman do that as Clark?,he is not really clumsy, its the character he is pretending to be

Also in the Metropolis Street Fight.the laser beams being reflected by the Truck's wing mirror always bugged me as well, doesn't that work with the Light type of Laser not the burn the shit out of everything type laser?

As tonight i will probably move onto Superman II,i will watch the Dick Lester version first and then the Donner cut..quite looking forward to it actually

after of course seeing Man of Steel today at the Cinema icon_biggrin icon_biggrin icon_biggrin
