Michael Shannon as Zod? Count me in. That guy is a freakin' amazing actor. I looked through the imdb list and can't picture him in anything. What's he famous for?

Ok. I just thought the way Hep was talking, that Shannon had done something significant. I'll keep an eye out next time Groundhog Day is on.

Watch 'Revolutionary Road'. He got an Academy nomination for playing one amazing massive asshole. Very good actor.

That's a very Superman-like actiony pic. Nice.
I don't get why the outfit has to keep getting darker and darker, though. Or why all superhero outfits have to be made out of that bumpy patterned material.
Supes is a beacon of hope to look up to in the Metropolis sky and smile, plus he's invulnerable, so it makes strategic sense to put him in bright distracting colors.

Move studios have been scared of tights going back to Tim Burton's 1989 Batman take. They're convinced we want rubber and leather.

It could just be bad lighting. But I agree, Supes should be bright and colorful. I just hope that this one has some actual action. To me the lack of action and the stupid earth quake rehashing is what brought down Superman Returns, it wasn't Brandon Routh.

I seem to remember someone saying the bright colors for some superhero costumes don't necessarily translate into something that looks good on the big screen, but I also concur it could just be that he's in a dark room.

'Cause it ain't 1971.. And superheroes shouldn't look like a kid running around in his bedroom in his underwear.

I just hope they aren't making Superman grittier and edgier for today's youth.
I get that trend (it's been going for, like, 20 years), but there's one superhero that really, truly should not be made darker (internally or externally), and that's Supes.
The world is dark enough.

I think that if they were going for a darker or edgier Superman, they probably wouldn't go with the classic costume. Darker or otherwise.

I like the movie costume more than what I have seen for the reboot comics. I agree about the rubbery look though... it's SUPERMAN. I'm not thinking that a material that protects him like armor is needed. Aside... it seems that ALL the WB studios think is "the hero needs to be DARKER and GRITTIER, cause that is what was wrong with Green Lantern and worked for us with Batman" Question ('cause I haven't seen it) wasn't Jonah Hex dark and edgy? The character is.... IIRC, THAT wasn't the formula for a successful movie either. Still stumping for Give The DiniTimmverse a chance to go live action! LOL

Of course the costume would have to have some sort of protection, otherwise we'd have a very nude Superman after a big explosion.

plot synopsis: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

About 22 years ago, I too was a young twentysomething newspaper reporter with thick plastic-rim eyeglasses, and a hopeless, unrequited crush on my female co-worker (Christine, instead of Lois)! Basically, I was Superman, minus all the Krypton stuff. To me, the cynical former newspaperman, a modern Supes movie has to recognize the disintegration of the newspaper industry, the elevation of bloggers and "any nut on the street with a cellphone camera" into "journalists," etc. Not that the Clark Kent journalist portion of the film needs to be "trendy," I just think it oughta reflect the reality of our times if they're setting it modern day.

The plot points may sound generic, but the details show the direction they're heading with the character. Generic would be: Superman is well-known. Clark Kent is a reporter who's really Superman and came to Earth as a baby. He grew up with American parents and helps the world a lot. plot synopsis: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Gah - that suit looks horrible. After seeing the regulation Supes costume for so long this guy looks like he didn't get a chance to finish dressing. Or maybe he had extra time to get dressed and realized the underwear went on the inside of the uniform.

The suit needs the red to break up all the blue, doesn't have to be briefs on the outside, a belt would do too.
