.....and from what I heard, Captain America will be called something else when marketed overseas. edit: typo wait...are we allowed to use that abbreviation, or have Typographical Errors bitched and moaned until everyone caved and changed it too?

Brandon Routh was on Chuck for several episodes playing a CIA spy. He did fine, although I tended to joke he came across more as a Tom Cruise impersonator than as himself.

although a voice doesn't make an actor it would still be odd to have Superman with an English accent saying that he is fighting for 'Truth,Justice and the American way'
for what it's worth, supes hasn't use the last part of that vow in a very, very long time. it died when being pc became the status quo. Plus he'd be invading oil-rich countries and attacking nations under the guise of them having MWD's even though he damn-well knows it ain't true. I keed, I keed. Truthfully, he's been the champion of the Earth for a long time, and while "America" may have flown in the 40s-80s, the global village has no interest in a closed-minded hero. He was also created between an American and a Canadian, so he's got foreign roots (perhaps how-you-say "birthers" should be demanding a birth certificate for Supes )

I just realised that maybe this is the dawn of a new age and the British wont always be automatically cast as the bad guys(damn you Alan Rickman/Jeremy Irons!!!) Batman reboot got Christian Bale,Spider-Man reboot has got Andrew Garfield and now the Superman reboot has this Henry Cavill .....and from what I heard, Captain America will be called something else when marketed overseas.
oh and i would be pissed off if Captain America got released here under another name,he has been Captain America here while i have been growing up,so they better not change it...unless you mean non-English countries where it is being released

Rather than trying to do stuff that's so canon, I'd love to see them doing some stuff that's miniseries/one shots. Let's see a Superman: Red Son, where he lands on a Ukranian Farm rather than one in Kansas.

Let's see a Superman: Red Son, where he lands on a Ukranian Farm rather than one in Kansas. I doubt they'd even entertain that as an idea. I'd like to see a back to basics origin story that sets the tone for further films. Batman Begins did a fantastic job of doing just that and I would love Snyder to use that as his template...but give it the heart of Reeve's Superman. By the way, the almost always fantastic DC animated division is putting out a version of Grant Morrison's All Star Superman . Under Bruce Timm, they're almost always excellent films. If you want the offbeat tales like Red Son, these films are your best offering...not that you're settling for a lesser product, though! Also, Cartoon Networks Young Justice is a fantastic alternative to the great series of JLA/JLU that CN ran a while ago.

I saw Jor-El and Lara are cast. Unless the reviews are great, I am OUT. This all indicates ORIGIN to me, and I do NOT want to see Jor-El fight with the Council AGAIN, Krypton explode AGAIN, young Clark being trained by Ma and PA Kent AGAIN. If there is someone on the planet who doesn't know that part, please send them a flyer.
I have no trouble with a flashback or exposition, but and hr+ of that origin will drive me crazy.

To be fair, the other Batman movies really didn't cover origin to the extent of the Superman movies. Flashbacks, snipits, dream sequences. Batman Begins was the only one. that's one reason I liked the 1989 Burton/Keaton movie. Batman was there, the police didn't like it, but aside from a 2 minuite flashback of Jack shooting, the movie figured I knew why Bruce Wayne dressed up.

If done right, it'll be awesome. Just look at Batman Begins. Well maybe not - Batman Begins is about, well, the goddamn Batman. But the Batman Begins stuff was from a period we don't usually see and tied in to the whole story, thematically. With Zod in the new movie, any flashback should be the same. There will be a reason for it, in terms of serving the film's story. And just because you know the story doesn't mean there can't be an interesting spin on it or that it can't be told in a fresh way. Superman: The Movie is the grandfather of the "good" superhero movie. Before that one, no one bothered with superheroes in any way that wasn't cheap and hyerdramatic (or even campy, thanks 60s Batman!*). For me, it's on a pinnacle for how to structure one of these films. And the big red S doesn't appear until an hour in. Batman Begins is firmly in second place for me, and I haven't timed it, but I think it's a similar situation there. Even Spider-Man, which may be in third, doesn't see our traditional Spidey costume until at least :45 in. I'll make the bold prediction here that Captain America will be the same (there seems to be a lot of pre-story), and it's on track to be really, really good (though who knows yet). Sure, people know the story. You could just toss it in as a quickie flashback or even tell the story in the credits of the film. You know what movie did that? The Ang Lee Hulk. The reason it matters is because it builds your interest in the character and makes the story connect to him, personally. Of course I'm not saying they should always tie everything into the back story (they made Sandman suddenly Uncle Ben's killer, and that was stupid) and give us a whole origin every time. But if they're starting out or rebooting (the new Spidey might be an exception since we had an origin so recently, I could see that story being abbreviated - but they'll need to do it to make it stand on its own), they should give us the origin. If they're going to give us the origin, they should make it interesting and not throw it away. *I love 60s Batman.

As far as Superman goes; if the last, or only, time I saw Krypton blow was in Superman, that would be fine. Before that, there was the Adventures of Superman, afterwords, the animated shows, and most recently, Smallville. If covering some of that background is needed to say give Zod some depth, issues with the El family, rival for Lara, bestest friends with Kal's dad before the big schism, etc., sure, I'd love to see that kind of stuff on Krypton before the blowup. If the elder Kents are in the movie because Clark needs something, or visits, or wants some parent advice, I'm good with that too. My thing (and it is just mine) is that I don't mind the characters appearing for whatever the story is, I just am not enthused about seeing the origin of Superman again. Edited to say on the tangent, I disagree that Superman- the movie was the first time superheroes were treated with respect. IMO, the 1960s Green Hornet tried but was hamstrung by the campy Batman expectations. In the 1950s, the Adventures of Superman was also a quality show. I put George Reeves performance as Clark over Chris Reeves as far as that character interpretation goes. The George R.'s Clark never appeared to be as the nebbish as the 1978 portrayal and looked to me to be more of a "real" person. disclaimer - I think that Batman (1966) and Superman (1978) are fine shows/movies and do not mean to imply otherwise. heck, I like Brave and the Bold, too. Superman III, Superman IV, Superman Returns, and Batman after Returns and before Begins. NEVER HAPPENED.

Release date is apparently now officially June 2013... http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/167955-man-of-steel-moved-to-summer-2013Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Zack Snyder's Superman movie Man of Steel will be released in theaters on June 14, 2013 and not in December of 2012 as was previously believed. imho, not a bad thing. JJ Abrams' Star Trek was moved in that fashion from Dec. 2008 to summer 2009, when Paramount liked what they were seeing and thought it would work as a summer blockbuster type. I guess the question would whether this is being moved for that reason, or if it's due to scheduling issues or needing more time for FX work etc. Or, since the Dec. 2012 date wasn't "official," maybe everyone was just guessing wrong. Iron Man 3's currently sked for May 3, 2013; and Thor 2 for July 26, 2013. So the comic book movie schedule that summer looks about full. This site's page is kind of useful: http://www.movieinsider.com/movies/-/2013/It also looks like if Marvel green lit a Captain America sequel, it'd be probably be for 2014 and not need to be rushed together as Iron Man 2 was (2-year cycle).
