http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2010/08/brandon-routh-eyes-return-to-s.htmlBrandon Routh wants to play Superman again, but admits its not in his power, while Christopher Nolan agrees that he certainly looks the part(he will be offering him a screen test),but he is afraid the audience will see his Superman film as a sequel to Superman Returns, rather than a complete restart you can see both sides...but now that i know its a restart,well...that has sorted that part out for me...so yeah,i want Brandon Routh again,he IMO was the best thing about Superman Returns i thought he did well considering the big(Red)boots he had to fill

I agree that Routh was very good in the movie, but I think it was more as Clark Kent than Supes. He clearly followed the Reeve mold, and that's a good thing, but I always felt he was a little kid putting on a costume, more than the real deal. That would have been fine in an origin story, great even, but it wasn't quite as good in SR.
The problem with him in a reboot, even if it is an origin or early story (and do we really need a Superman origin at this point), is exactly what Nolan's talking about. I can logically disassociate Routh from the previous film if you tell me to, but emotionally and subconsciously the new movie's going to be tainted by the old one right out of the gate.

I found Roth far more engaging in his appearances on the TV show Chuck (even if at times he seemed to be purposely impersonating Young Tom Cruise) because he got to play a character with light and dark sides, and not a one note super hero. My big issue with Superman Returns (which at the time I liked enough to see twice, and I do have it on DVD, but I remember it so well today) was Lex Luthor was just too boring as a villain. I mean, Kevin Spacey in a bald wig can be scary (Seven), but Kevin Spacey with a bald wig in SR was never much scary or even interesting, imho. I would've dug around the archives and come up with a Brainiac, hell, even go remake Superman II with modern special effects. I also didn't understand Bryan Singer casting a 23 year old actress (Kate Bosworth) to play a version of Lois Lane that had a 10-year old kid (!) and a "past history" with Clark Kent. Give me a break, she looked like a college freshman and had little of the spunk associated with the character. I know Singer can do brilliant, creative directing work but Superman Returns, now that I have a few years to look back on it and its relative box office failure, seemed like too much of a staid Singer love letter to Richard Donner and the first couple of films, and not enough of bringing himself to it and creating something fresh. ------ I don't really know what Chris Nolan would bring to it as producer (I love him as director but who knows how much input he'd have as producer). Maybe he'd recast it with British and Australian actors, make Superman a brooding loner in tights in Alaska, and then at the end you'd find out the new Superman movie was all just a dream and that it wasn't really the beginning of a new franchise but the end because it was a backwards sleight of hand magic trick...

And his plot didn't even make sense. At least there's some logic to sending California to the sea and creating a new coast (Costa Del Lex). But he had seen what kind of "land" the crystals created. You can't build jack shit on that.

So Superman will be a murderous ballet dancer who moonlights as a professional wrestler and... well I don't understand most of Darren's movies so I can't even poke fun at him effectively. Actually people, including me certainly, read too much into director choices based on their past ouevre. I didn't see the director of Evil Dead as making sense for Spider-Man, or the director of Memento and Insomnia for Batman. And I thought the director of Breakdown and U-571 would be fine for Terminator 3, and the X-Men films director would have to do great on Superman Returns, right? So I've decided I know nothing when it comes to having ESP on if a director's past history makes choosing him make sense for a franchise genre film.

OTOH, Affleck's last two films have been excellent, so if it should happen, I don't think anyone should be "worried" about it.

So that's the new Kryptonite, eh? EW has a brief interview with Snyder: http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/04/zack-snyder-superman-interview/Clearly it's too early in the process for him to say anything substantial. I suspect there won't be flying dismembered limbs and it won't be an R-rated film. Synder first began talking with the Nolan and Thomas about helming a cinematic revamp of the DC Comics legend last month. “They’re just super-smart, super-educated about the character. It was an amazing conversation and it went from there,” says Snyder, whose current movie, the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, is now in theaters “I’ve been a fan of the character for awhile. It’s really a treat and super-delight to do this.” *Note that he uses "super" 3 times when answering questions. I wonder if that will be his new schtick - it could get old really fast. I had NO idea he directed that animated owls movie. I guess the studio didn't want to play it up as "from the director of Dawn of the Dead (remake), 300 and Watchmen!" To which parents would yell "Eeeek!"

I know youre joking but Timberlake actually has some talent unlike most popstars. Although combinig Kneel before Zod and Dick in a Box would probably get the new Supes movie an R rating.

Im not a fan of Brandon Routh, though unlike some I dont blame him for the train wreck that the last Superman movie was. Hell, Kevin Spacey phoned in his Lex Luthor in that flick. Im not opposed to Routh getting another shot and of all the choices Ive heard bandied about, he is the only one who I feel has the Superman look. you know what i mean, look at the people in that link CK provided, they all look shit for the part of Superman...they all look like they should be in an Aftershave Commercial

here he is,the new Superman(or at least i guess 'tapped' to play him),no i have not heard of him either, but that is fine for Superman actors io927-year-old British actor Henry Cavill, who's best known for his role as Charles Brandon on Showtime's The Tudors, has been tapped to play Midwestern demigod Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman flick. Also, Cavill auditioned for Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins and was passed over for James Bond in favor of Daniel Craig. due Dec 2012 I am sure this guy will be a good supes, but i still feel sorry for Brandon Routh,i just hope that this doesn't put him in the 'Phantom Zone',and we don't see him again in anything, last thing i know of him in was Scott Pilgrim saying this guy will be a good Supes is one thing, but it depends on his Gollum/Smeagol thing with Clark Kent as well

I had no problem with hiring an englishman for the batman role as bale is an actor's actor AND the bruce wayne character is a playboy who could have been raised anywhere in the world.
however, supes is so intrinsically american that cavill is going to have to really knock this out of the ballpark to make it work. the beauty of superman is that he's the most powerful mortal on earth...but was raised in the culture of small town america...VERY small town america...and has been instilled with those same values. For his character to work, you have to drop all aspects of cynicism and play it from the heart. he is the most sincere character (next to captain marvell) in the DC universe. reeves knew that and perfected it. routh, while no reeves, tried to at least emulate reeves. he may not have been perfect, but i thought he took some unwarranted criticism for his portrayal that stemmed more from singer's script than his performance.

Cavill was awesome on The Tudors. I'm sure he'll be an awesome Superman.

so, is Supes going to go 'Pip Pip cheerio bob's your uncle and bollocks to kryptonite you wanker' when beating up bad guys now? i don't see why not seriously though,i guess it will be a test on this guys acting ability for the reasons what Hepcat brought up if its to work...i mean look at Hugh Laurie,i know you all know him as House, but he is as British as you can get with his natural accent..just watch Jeeves and Wooster or even Blackadder and that is pretty much what Hugh Laurie sounds like normally...although a voice doesn't make an actor it would still be odd to have Superman with an English accent saying that he is fighting for 'Truth,Justice and the American way'

for what it's worth, supes hasn't use the last part of that vow in a very, very long time. it died when being pc became the status quo.
