The Wrap

Quote
Sony Pictures has quietly started development on a new chapter in the "Men in Black" franchise, tapping Oren Uziel ("The Kitchen Sink") to write "Men in Black 4," TheWrap has learned.

Additionally, Uziel has been hired to rewrite the studio's upcoming sequel to last year's hit comedy "21 Jump Street," an individual familiar with both projects told TheWrap.

Sony is already developing Uziel's monster mash-up movie "The Kitchen Sink," which was voted to the 2010 Black List. The studio now is placing a big bet on Uziel, who will finish writing the "21 Jump Street" sequel before moving on to "MIB 4," details of which are being kept under wraps.

Are we excited about this?

This.  I'll be okay if I never see 2 again, and the first is hands down the best, but I'll watch a new one.

I loved the first one, the second was 'meh', and MiB3 has the honor of being the most forgettable movie I've ever seen.  It was so bland and so dull that neither Mrs. Gratch or I could have told you a thing about the characters, plot, set pieces, etc. within a day after we saw it.  Honestly, the only thing I remember about it was that Josh Brolin did a good TLJ impression.

Can't say I'm terribly excited for a 4th entry.

3's time-travel "origin of K" story was clever. Would like to know if the next installment will have Will Smith and Tommy Lee again, or if they're going to pair Josh Brolin with some actor playing a young Will Smith. Both of the original actors are getting a bit long in the tooth for the action aspects. I'm intrigued, at least.

I liked the 3rd one quite a bit, wasn't expecting to. I doubt I would see this in theatres but will rent it when it comes to streaming.

Do you realize that Josh Brolin and Will Smith are the same age?

I didn't. You could pair them up again with another time travel motif, but that could be kind of lame. After 3 gave us the bridge 4 should either be Smith + Jones or Brolin + ?? playing young J. But the later would probably be box office death.
