from Comic-Con.  I'm still having trouble picturing Rogen as the Green Hornet, and apparently Stephen Chow is now out as Kato, but I like the car.

pics from the set.  after so long (it seems to have been in the works in one form or another since the early 90's) it's kind of hard to believe this is finally happening.

not sure why all the 3d hate.  it's been in the works for a long time.  every decade they try to get 3d to be viable and a wave of movies are in 3d.  this time however it's finally a viable approach.  I don't expect it to fade away any time soon.

Besides the fact that the few new 3d movies I've seen used it as a poorly-done gimmick or substitute for a story, for me I guess its nuasea thats the big annoyance in 3D movies... I mean physical, not because of poor movies ;-)

Is that really Seth Rogen? I haven't been keeping up on casting. The facial structure actually looks more like David Boreanez (Buffy/Angel/Bones) to me. Amazing what a mask can do - assuming it's not a stuntman.  icon_razz

My older brother and I grew up with the short-lived Green Hornet show. As Korean-Americans in a then (early 1970s) very not-terribly-melting-pot Virginia, Lee's character was one of the semi-positive Asian characters we could look up and aspire to. Overseas, it really was known as "The Kato Show."  icon_smile

At the time, we couldn't understand how it didn't became a hit and the idiotic Adam West Batman show became a ratings leader. I'm afraid though when I picked up the Green Hornet TV pilot on DVD some years ago, I found it dreadfully boring and dull.

For a wee bit of context:
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/06/22/trailer-the-green-hornet-seth-roge/

My gut feeling is any film like this shoveled into a January dead zone release date is probably not something the studio has a lot of confidence in.  icon_neutral

I like the fact that GH is a baffoon and that they didn't turn him into a real action hero. Hope there's a scene where he start contriving some elaborate rescue plan only to turn and see that Kato has already taken out all the bad guys:

The Matrix released in late arch 1999. And are you implying that comparing The Green Hornet to Paul Blart: Mall Cop is a compliment?  saywhat icon_razz

Since Seth Rogen already did a lame mall cop movie, Observe and Report [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1197628/] (it reminded me of when Ed TV came out just after The Truman Show and didn't do nearly as well), it would be appropriate I guess.

If the movie's just going to be a lame, not-funny parody (like Ben Stiller's terrible Starsky & Hutch flick), then a January wasteland release date is just what it deserves imho. I say that as one of maybe 13 people left on the planet who actually watched the original show and loved it (though as I mentioned here earlier, when I watched the Green Hornet pilot on DVD, it was dreadfully boring). My brother tended to use a broken off TV antenna to pretend he was the Green Hornet and I was, Kato, when we pretended to be the duo.  icon_smile

15!  I think it didn't do as well as Batman back then because it was much more straight.

The movie looks.......  ok, I'll wait for the review, but right now, I'm out.

I remember enjoying the comics from NOW in the early 90s.  I kinda hoped that the movie would have used those for a launch pad.

I saw this last night.  Very enjoyable, it is a Comedy-Action movie.  The comedy comes from the interaction between Seth Rogan and Jay Chao.  Cameron Diaz's character is essential and not used much at the same time.

THere was a small bit of the Hornet Theme from the 60's in the movie (about 5 secs).  Generally, there is an irony in that in the 1960's Batman was the comedy and the Green Hornet was the more serious.  In 2010, Batman is deadly dark and the Green Hornet is lighter.

Well, the movie just got a shot of the wrong kind of publicity...  Roll Eyes

'Green Hornet' actor Eddie Furlong arrested (he isn't known as "'incessantly whining kid actor from Terminator 2"? icon_razz)
http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/01/12/eddie.furlong.arrested.ppl/index.html?hpt=Sbin
Quote
"Green Hornet" actor Eddie Furlong was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly violating a court order to stay at least 100 yards away from his estranged wife.

Furlong, 33, who also starred in "Terminator 2," was taken into custody while he was in court for a hearing on the restraining order obtained by Rachael Kneeland, according to a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

Furlong and Kneeland, who are parents of 4-year-old Ethan, are in the midst of a contentious divorce that has included allegations of drug use and suicide threats by the actor.
I confess I had no idea he was in the movie.
--------------------------
As far as the movie goes, I've read that in screenings so far it's benefited from the "that's better than I thought it would be," and "that doesn't suck the way I thought it would" syndrome, which seems promising enough.

I think I mentioned earlier that when I bought the original Green Hornet 1960s TV show pilot on DVD, I was bored to tears, aside from the few precious moments Bruce Lee (Kato) got to strut his stuff. I remember my big brother and I liked that show so much, and it just seemed sooooo much duller than what I remember as a kid.

For cripe's sake, by now everyone should be aware of a few simple facts:

1) We all are going to die someday.

2) Lindsay Lohan, Edward Furlong and Charlie Sheen are just a few of the folks in Hollywood who will disappear on a minute's notice if there is blow and/or hookers within their peripheral view.

If the producers try to act surprised, I can only imagine they still yell "Fire hot!" in complete surprise when they reach for a pot on the stove every day without a mitt.

Reviews rolling out, pretty harsh as one might expect. Some have pointed out the 3-D is particularly worthless (there simply isn't anything 3-D-ish to emphasize, apparently) and a cynical "cash-grab," so at the least, if you still plan to catch it, maybe consider skipping the 3-D and save a couple bucks.

Why the director of "“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” would want to tackle something like this will probably never be known. He's presumably why Tom Wilkinson (who was in that) was in this.

Based on this review I don't think this movie will even darken my Netflix queue.

In case you can't see that link without being a subscriber, the gist is:

Quote
The first half of “Green Hornet’’ undermines every promise a superhero movie is supposed to make with genuinely subversive comic verve. It’s off-putting, rude, misshapen, and more often than not hysterically funny. The second half, sadly, is an ear-splitting train wreck.

The first half sounds pretty good.
