I tried, but the first one I got was Bill Bailey, and it kind of turned me off from continuing.

Joseph Gordon Levitt and Paul Rudd linked to Ant-Man

Quote
Marvel's got two films lined up for release in 2015. The first is Joss Whedon's rather sizeable sequel, Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Following that, and kicking off phase three of the Marvel cinematic universe, is Edgar Wright's long-mooted Ant-Man movie.

Variety is now reporting that the shortlist to play the title role in the film has been whittled down to a couple of names. And the two that are being named are Joseph Gordon-Levitt (no stranger to comic book movies, with The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming Sin City: A Dame To Kill For under his belt) and Paul Rudd the leading contenders. Variety notes that a third actor may yet be added to that shortlist, but it appears that the choice of Ant-Man is being narrowed right down.

Out of the two,if it came down to it,i think i would prefer to see Paul Rudd take on a semi serious role,i know he is usually in comedies but i like the guy

If it was JGL,he would be the Third(?)to put it about between DC and Marvel(after Ryan Reynolds and upcoming Ben Affleck)

I'm not so sure, given the material and director, that this role will be semi-serious at all.

But I also would prefer Rudd over G-L.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't see it with the 3rd Rock kid, though.

He also went on to explain that Ant-Man, which is scheduled for a July 2015 release, won't be your regular super hero movie as it will straddle another genre entirely - the heist movie.

That was fast (maybe).

Looks like it's Ruddthumbsup

Just as important, though, it appears Rashida Jones will be playing The Wasp!  She won't be in the wings this go 'round, but that is fantastic news, IMO.  I hope we see her in the next Avengers.  My daughter will shatter windows with the shrieking.

Wow, I am big fans of both of them, but they seem a little miscast to me for these roles.  I've always seen Henry Pym as more of a serious, tortured soul scientist type, and Wasp as a more carefree, sprite-like rich girl.  I would have gone with Ashley Greene (with short hair, Alice from Twilight).  For Hank, maybe someone like Patrick Wilson.

I'm not going to ask Quincy Jones anything that might be dangerously close to an insult (now I could ask the mod squad girl, but I think I'd get all flumoxed).

She is not a bad choice, of course.

However, Rudd and Jones have already shown good chemistry together, and their energy certainly fits the Edgar Wright energy (and you weren't going to get the serious, tortured Pym with Wright directing anyway).

Panda suit?

Michael Douglas playing Hank Pym

Which means Rudd is playing the younger version, unless there's some weird narration flashback thing.

Rudd is playing Scott Lang

Quote
Director and co-screenwriter Edgar Wright explained some time ago his plan for the film which he confirmed yesterday. "So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the '60s, in sort of a 'Tales to Astonish' mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang's story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him".

I must admit, saw this on Collider and just reading the headline made me almost do a spit take.  icon_razz But after reading more detail, I think as an Obi Won Kenobi-type mentor character, Douglas could be a blast. Perhaps like Anthony Hopkins in the first of the couple Antonio Banderas Zorro movies.

I wonder if they'll explore the abusive relationship with Wasp, probably not, something like that might be accepted in long term comic format, but in short form, directly seeing it in motion on screen, Pym beating his wife will not go over well.
