Looks like Ant-Man is on its way

Hey folks, Harry here...   my long time internet buddy, Edward Mazmanian pointed me at this Twitpic of Edgar Wright's with the words: "Received this in the mail. What can it mean?" - now I've written Edgar for clarafication, but I bet he couldn't even if he wanted to - so...  Now that MARVEL has all the money - will Edgar's ANT MAN get going very quickly?   We'll see - when Edgar was in town recently I got to sit down and have casual off the record conversation - there's a lot of options that Edgar's looking at - and he's weighing all of it carefully.   But I have to admit - this rather obvious tease of his - well it's enough to get me geeking!

there is an IMDB page for it listed for 2014

I hope this isn't true. Ant-Man has to be one of the lamest heroes on the Avenger's roster. A cartoon might work, but not a live action movie.

I think the character would work great in a movie that wasn't about him.  They should have introduced him in something like The Avengers.  I don't really see him as a solo movie kinda guy.

Iron Man isn't a very compelling character either - Ghost Rider is far more exciting.

Let's compare movies now, shall we? slywink

Frankly, if done well, Ant-man could be great.

Marvel Studios Prez Feige sounds optimistic about Ant-Man's script in interviews. I get the impression they realize it's a pretty challenging IP to make a movie out of, so they aren't rushing the script work on it.

Shane Black's Iron Man 3 apparently has some sort of "nano mech" angle, and I could see the Ant-Man character (biophysicist Henry Pym) at least getting a cameo there. I mean, I could see Tony Stark wanting to work with someone like that.

btw, there's an IM3 update, I'll post over there  icon_smile

Got to agree. I'm not familiar with his lore.. but what's he gonna fight? microbes? nano-bots? Sounds underwhelming.

Ultron, perhaps?

It also brings forth the Wasp, and people who steal the ant-man suit. Pym eventually moves on and tries other personas.

Well Ant Man is more than just Ant Man.  He has had half a dozen names and powers.  Story wise they could make it work, I just think the man himself is kinda blah.  (for the record I DO find Tony Stark rather compelling, even before the RDJ portrayal.)

I liked the treatment of Hank in the Ultimates and thought even though he was a pretty despicable person it was well written.  Again though not really as the star, but would still be good in a group.  I feel the same about Wasp too.

this.  just like Hawkeye or Black Widow it'd be a great idea to introduce him as part of an ensemble cast.

Question is, is it going to be about Pym, or the new 'Irredeemable' Ant Man (who is amusing as hell, really)?

well this is the IMDB description...but this is still a holding page,so the general description could of been put on that page

I do enjoy Edgar Wright films, and admittedly Ant-Man has passed me by,so i will be interested in this...but perhaps not expecting to be totally blown away by it

To be fair, Black Widow/Natasha had a fairly sizeable (some would say "oversized") role in Iron Man 2, and Hawkeye had a "blink and you'll miss it" cameo in Thor, though you never even saw Jeremy Renner's face.

I realize that's not a large sample to base an assumption on. It just seems like their schtick is to introduce the character at least in a cameo bit in a solo movie first.

I didn't realize Wright's background is basically all comedy. So I don't know how that's going to fit in with Ant Man. Albeit Avengers is probably the funniest (intentionally) film I've seen all year. I guess I'm not worried about whether Wright can bring the humor, I'm worried if he can tell a story and get you invested in a character.

Collider's description of the preliminary footage screened at Comic-Con sounds promising:
http://collider.com/comic-con-marvel-ant-man-guardians-galaxy/180531/
Quote
They then revealed test footage that Wright shot for Ant-Man, after Wright toyed for a bit with the audience saying they wouldn’t really want to see a clip of stuff with wires and blue screens in it.  It’s completely unfinished since they shot it two weeks ago, but they showed the footage anyway because Marvel absolutely owns Comic-Con.

The footage opened with Ant-Man sitting on a ledge in an air conditioning vent that lead to a hallway guarded by two agents.  The costume was pretty metallic looking, and he snuck through the vent hole and started running down the hallway.  He morphed to normal size, shocking the guards, then morphed back down to ant size and kept running.  Still in “ant size” he leapt up and punched one of the guys in the face, knocking the spit out of him, then he ran and attacked the other guard.

The footage was obviously rough, but I thought the big/small effects worked great.  Wright found a way to make Ant-Man’s power work in a cool and useful way on screen, while still allowing room for the playful tone that he does so well.  The lights then came back up.

-“I’ve been doing one second of that for the last six years,” quipped Wright  icon_lol
-Wright confirmed that the costume mixing the Silver Age and contemporary Ant-Man, adding “Ant-Man will kick your ass one inch at a time.”
-Wright said there’s no casting to announce, but “revealed” that Ant-Man has been here all day, pulling out an Ant-Man title card and putting it on the table next to him.

I guess any Hulk film won't be until 2016 since they seem to be trying to limit themselves to 2 films a year.
