Sony Pictures Animation has closed a deal to acquire rights to the classic 1980s sitcom ALF and will develop the property into a hybrid CG/live action feature.

Jordan Kerner, who produced SPA’s adaptation of 1980s Saturday morning cartoon staple The Smurfs and helped turn it into a hybrid blockbuster franchise, will produce the project with show creators Tom Patchett, a veteran of 1970s comedies, and puppeteer Paul Fusco.

This could apply to 90% of the things I watched 25 years ago...

I'm guessing that with Alf we'll get an origin film about the character as there is a wealth of untold information that was created for his show that has never seen the light of day.

We'll get tales from Alf's days as a political terrorist on his homeworld.  Stories about his work with a death squad and the turning point that saw him leave behind a life of bloodshed and violence for one of exploration and cohabitation with a like minded earthling.

I for one can't wait for the true story to be told!

I vaguely remember an ALF cartoon that was focused on his home planet.

I hope the movie doesn't shy away from graphic depictions of cat eating.
