While I greatly enjoyed the movie, I do believe I'm going back to my previous practice of not attending popular films on opening weekends. I got jammed in between a couple that loved to discuss (and loudly) every fight scene, and an older couple who could not figure out how to turn off the ringer on their cell phone. It went off twice during the film...and both times they fumbled with it for a few minutes before jamming it under the husband's arm in an attempt to stifle it. It was like watching the bus scene from the series finale of MASH.

I sat next to a kid who farted more and more often as the movie passed, fiddled with his glass bottle on my arm rest so its impacts against it could be felt throughout my entire seat, talked with a normal voice to his mom, and he had to go the the toilet so bad by the end that his twitching could probably be felt across half the row of seats I was sitting in. Distracting, to put it mildly. I get a superior movie experience at home these days, even with 3D if I so want. The only reason I ever go to the cinema is because I want to see a movie without waiting half a year for it first.

For me it's popcorn first, movie second. There's just something about theater popcorn I can't duplicate at home.

We've been known to go to the theater, buy popcorn, and then take it home for this very reason. While the vendor is inside the theater, my wife can be very persuasive and we've never had a problem. Makes the at-home experience even more authentic, outside of the dogs by my feet, beer in the fridge, and the ability to pause the film for periodic bathroom breaks. Was supposed to see this tonight, but I'm elbow deep in a case study, have a pharmaceutics lab final tomorrow, and a 10-chapter biochem exam Friday. There's no way I can swing a movie tonight. Guess it's time to load up Halo 4.

Saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. This despite having a terrible audience to watch it with. They sat through the 20 minutes of previews just fine, but as soon as the movie started there were people constantly leaving their seats, coughing throughout the movie, and the couples in front of us and behind us talking in Spanish. Even a cell phone went off at one point.
Still, great movie.

I went this afternoon... good movie. I also had a row full of idiots behind me talking loudly and kicking my seat, tapping their feet, etc. the entire time. WTF, people, have you never been to a movie before? Repeated dirty looks accomplished nothing. Totally oblivious.
When I went to Argo a couple weeks ago the larger lady behind me ripped a tremendous fart after talking for about 3/4ths of the movie (they also came in after me and sat RIGHT behind me in a theater in which they were the 5th and 6th people).

Sam Mendes working on next Bond film?Sam Mendes could make another Bond movie following the huge success of his 007 debut Skyfall. The Oscar-winning American Beauty director has been working on a plot for a follow-up, according to the regular screenwriters of the series. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have worked on five James Bond films, also revealed they are quitting the franchise. Speaking during an appearance at the fourth Doha Tribeca Film Festival, Wade said: "We're very happy to have done five Bonds, I think we've gotten it to a good place. "I know that John Logan (screenwriter) and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time." Purvis, who has been writing movie scripts with Wade for 28 years, said: "We were going to stop with Quantum Of Solace, but it's good to go out on a high with Skyfall." Current 007 Daniel Craig, who has starred in the last three Bond adventures, is contracted for a further two. Skyfall, which was released last month, became the UK's biggest box office hit of the year in the space of just 12 days. It is also the most financially successful Bond film ever, having already taken more money than the highly-acclaimed Casino Royale in 2006.

I contributed to that weekend result. Really enjoyed it. Daniel Craig is a great JB. I know it comes down to preference, but I'd much rather see the bad ass version of Bond (Connery and Craig) over the snooty playboy version (Moore and Brosnan). I had a hard time imaging Moore and Brosnan as former Royal Marine, SBS type veterans.

Spoiler for Hiden: There was a cool theory going around a few months back(i may of posted this somewhere in this thread) before Skyfall was released that Connery,Moore Lazenby etc HAVE all been Bond and this is all just ongoing, not a reboot, because the code name is coupled with the 007 number, whoever has the 007 number has the alias James Bond...it would explain why the fucker goes around telling everyone his name to a point where they want to kick his teeth in(although he has no family so i suppose that he doesn't care if everyone knows his name) Alec Trevelyan(Sean Bean)in Goldeneye would not of been his real name, just the alias that came with 006 number...the CIA could very well have the same role in place with the name Felix Leiter However,I think Skyfall totally dismissed all that with his parents gravestones both being named Bond...i can't explain the car however and the other points that Tegs makes all added to the rumour, especially the Judi Dench part Then you have Eve at the end introducing her last name as Moneypenny...is that another ongoing code name for the secretary of M?(Samantha Bond played Moneypenny in a past Bond film where Judi Dench was M) Q(Desmond Llewelyn) was replaced by R(John Cleese) in The World is not Enough, however in Tomorrow Never Dies John Cleese's character is now known as Q One thing i am puzzled by is that in Casino Royale Bond said to M after he breaks into her personal account through her laptop at home "Funny i thought M was just a random letter assigned to you,i didn't know it stood for....." M interrupts him with "if you utter another syllable i will have you shot" The gamekeeper at Skyfall(Albert Finney)calls her Emma...which i suppose could be the 'Em/M' that Bond was referring to in Casino Royale but as we see Ralph Fiennes then takes the role of M...his last name is Mallory in Skyfall, don't know if that means anything towards the code name so yeah,i dunno if they ARE going with it I went on a bit didn't I?

Spoiler for Hiden: Shoot, forgot about the graves. The fact that he had the car bugged me, so at least it would have been a good explanation. It was like wink wink to the audience despite that it made no sense at all for him to have that particular car, at least one with machine guns and an ejector seat. The M/Emma thing I thought was the caretaker just misunderstanding that her name was "M", which is pretty odd for most people . I don't think he had met her before.

Yeah you are right Teggy on that M thing...i'm a dumbass EDIT: Spoiler for Hiden: I looked it up,so not sure what the codename 'M' refers to that Bond said in Casino Royale This is what i was thinking of originally when i went to that Emma quote, that unfortunately was the first i saw when i searched for it Gareth Mallory: Eleanor, be sensible. Retire with dignity... M: Dignity! To Hell with dignity! I'll retire when my goddamn job is finally done.

Bah,that's unfortunate,Skyfall just misses out on being a Billion Dollar Movie,as i think its just about exhausted everywhere,so i doubt it will make another 50 mill..i think it added just 2 million to it's total this past week (it has opened everywhere, apart from China which has a 2013 schedule) but $950 Mil is still a great achievement Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $274,250,511 28.8% + Foreign: $678,700,000 71.2% = Worldwide: $952,950,511

Mrs. Gratch and I contributed to it's total yesterday, and the theater was about 2/3 full (for a 3:30 showing on a Thursday). I thoroughly enjoyed it, really felt like a throwback to the awesome Bond films of old. Side note: We also were treated to a horrible audience, including the couple who brought their 3 month old baby and refused to take him out when he started crying and/or jabbering. Someone finally said something to them about an hour in, which (of course) nearly started an altercation. Idiots. Seriously, who brings a baby to a goddamn movie?

I picked up slimline cases and offloaded all from the 50 set into those, as I don't like having to slide discs in and out and risk damaging them.

Nope. 24 and 25 have been announced and Craig is under contract, but other than that, there's little info. 24 is projected for next year, but seeing as they haven't started casting and have no approved script, it will be late next year at earliest.

I loved Casino Royale and really hated Quantum. Is Quantum as bad as I remember, or do people seem to be warming up to it more as it ages? I remember someone saying it's much better if you watch it immediately back to back with Casino.

I watched Casino and Quantum a day or two before going to see Skyfall and first time i saw Quantum i wasn't too impressed(when it was released),this second time i watched it I enjoyed it a lot more, probably does help to have Casino Royale's plot fresh in the mind though with it being more a mini sequel to that film...which Bond films don't usually do

finally got around to doing this today, found out I was about 4 cases short so I ordered some more. some of the discs were a pain to get out.

Yeah, they were. I got 100 cases sent from Hong Kong by Meritline for $19.00. I severely underestimated how much that would weigh.

I loved Casino Royale and really hated Quantum. Is Quantum as bad as I remember, or do people seem to be warming up to it more as it ages? I remember someone saying it's much better if you watch it immediately back to back with Casino.
I watched Casino and Quantum a day or two before going to see Skyfall and first time i saw Quantum i wasn't too impressed(when it was released),this second time i watched it I enjoyed it a lot more, probably does help to have Casino Royale's plot fresh in the mind though with it being more a mini sequel to that film...which Bond films don't usually do Just did the back to back viewing and the prophecy was true: Quantum was much better with Casino completely fresh in memory. My opinion on Quantum is now a complete 180 from what it was.

finally saw this after buying it off of Amazon. figured it was a Bond movie so it would be a safe blind purchase, and I was right. A bit slow at the beginning but overall it was fun. Still don't like Javier though, something about his face makes me want to smash it with a brick, and he was probably the most effeminate Bond villain ever. It's not my favorite Bond movie, but it is up there. Casino Royale currently owns the top spot, but I'm going to have a James Bond movie week at some point soon so Skyfall could be in 3rd place or 4th place.

Yeah, Skyfall is good despite Bardem, not because of him.

still gutted about him and Penelope Cruz then? I thought he was alright in the film, his come on/tease towards Bond was a bit unexpected, but its not like we have had that many bad guys actually interested in Bond that way....if he was actually interested in him that way
