Anyone planning to see this?  I think I'll hit it up on a matinee on Saturday or Sunday.  I don't see this as a must-see-asap kinda title.

I had a chance to go see it on Tuesday, but I was unable to go.  I'm not as high on it as I once was.  41% on Rottentomatoes doesn't excite me much.

Most action movies get a middle of the road score from RT though.  "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" is only getting 61% and most everyone I know liked it a lot.

RT is a great resource but certain genres always seem to get lower scores.

Hey, it's a Michael Bay flick not starring Ben Affleck. On some level, it's guaranteed to entertain, if only for a few minutes. What's really sad is I stand to like this more than War of the Worlds which was just outright awful. Go figure.

The Island isn't much on action.  There is no action at all for about 45 minutes to an hour.  Then there is one very spectacular chase scene followed by 45 minutes of a few very mundane chase scenes.

Its starts off trying to be a serious sci-fi then completely give that up and and becomes an average action movie.  Overall I found it very, very disappointing.

How does it compare to Gattaca?  I'm not very familiar with The Island, but doesn't it kind of touch on some of the same topics?

Yes, but Gattica is serious sci-fi and The Island is not.  There is a lot of very fertile ground for exploration of some interesting topics but not a single one of them is given the slightest bit of follow through.

All of the reviews mention the split-personality aspect of the movie, where is starts out as a reasonable sci-fi movie, and then turns into patented Bay carnage, forgetting any worthwhile cloning aspects that it brought up in the beginning.

If this is any indication...Bay was still editing the movie 2 weeks before release (it's in the latest EW with Ewan and Scarlett on the cover).

That explains alot.  I got the feeling, from the first trailers I saw weeks ago, that this was gonna be a Minority Report style serious sci fi/action movie.  Then lately the trailers gave away the cloning twist and have played up a kind of Bad Boys comedy/action vibe.  I was wondering how the movie could be those two seemingly opposite things at once.

I can't say I'm surprised really. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, but it does have some reasonable competition right now, especially in Charlie.

It's awesome to see Batman still clinging to the theaters, preparing to top 200 million.

There may be legal troubles brewing in regards to The Island's originality, as compared to an old movie called The Clonus Horror, aka The Island '79 (or the rejected title of Episode II).
