At first I thought this was one of those licensed deals like Battleship or Candyland but for Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, but apparently it's based on a Richard Matheson story.

This was already a Twilight Zone episode.

Looked more info on the story from here

And found that it's got a couple good things

1. Using real robots (not CGI)
2. No 3D (since it's only a gimmick for 90% of movies these days)
3. There might actually be a story

This was already a Twilight Zone episode.

Based on the same writing of Richard Matheson...but it's not like that has ever happened before.

Maybe it'll be good, but it's hard to imagine audiences rooting for a tin can in a boxing ring.

I saw something like that on TV once.  It didn't last very long in the US or capture much of an audience...and that was "reality TV" which is pretty hard to miss on.  I just think they're going to have a hard time selling the emotional attachment needed for a movie of this style to be successful.  We'll see.

Next thing you know, they will start expecting people to develop emotional attachments to animals  and toys!  Come on, who is kidding who with this?

Tell me you didn't feel at least a pang of emotion when Wilson floated away.  That wasn't even animated.

It could be good but as they say in the trailer, "we'll see".

saw this tonight via Netflix-  it was an interesting mix of Rocky and Over the Top without the awesome power ballads.
