[Movie] Pitch Perfect

Normally I wouldn't bother mentioning a movie like this here, since it's probably pretty far off from the target audience, but I found myself very smitten with this one, just an all-around feel good movie. Essentially it's similar fare to Bring it On (with a similarly strong young cast that I think we'll see a lot more of), or the first 2 seasons of Glee compacted into a movie format. If you've watched any of The Sing Off on NBC, you'll be familiar with the A Cappella singing styles/formats, but in all honesty there isn't a lot of focus on the fact that there are no instruments (even though it's mentioned in passing many times). There are a large number of excellent small roles, humorous cameos and Rebel Wilson is an awesome new comedic talent (hard to tell which of her lines were ad-libbed or not). The focal point romance is fairly cliche and predictable, but very unobtrusive and very sweet. Most importantly the music numbers are well done and use a variety of techniques and influences (from old school to rock to hip hop to "mashups").
All in all one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen this year, and it's definitely going into my "guilty favorites" collection of movies that I can watch again and again (right alongside Bring It On).

So this ISN'T a sequel to Pitch Black but with a more optimistic ending?

Of course it is, but it's like Aliens 3 so they kill off Vin Diesel and the girl in the opening credits by having Fat Amy sit on them!!!
