Still, all I can think about now is why isn't Idris Elba playing Barman?

On a serious note, I think my problem with Ben Affleck in the role is that he always looks like he's about to break out in a smirk or a laugh. He's got these frat-guy looks that say, "I'm about to bust yer balls, cause I'm the life of the party!!!" That is just soooo NOT Bruce Wayne. I can't see him keeping a straight face long enough to get through a scene. It's the same reason Clooney made such a horrible Batman. Too smirky.

Affleck has too much history in Hollywood going against him. It was  so hard to take him seriously as an actor for the longest time which is why his work behind the camera took me by surprise. If you try go make him an action hero all I'm going to see are visions of him trying to look heroic in slow motion in Pearl Harbor.  He should know better.

Or Reindeer Games.

Or Paycheck.

Or Phantoms (he was the bomb yo)

I wonder if Aerosmith will perform the new theme song for possibly his first OK action movie since Armageddon.

I like Wil Wheaton's twit: "Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to Daredevil and Gigli."

Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six "appearance" deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten.

I missed that part, who the flying shit thought that would be a great idea?,not just because its Ben Affleck but because its a new Batman,no one should get a 13 picture deal when they haven't established themselves as the character yet........and TBH,even if they had established the character a 13 picture deal may still be too much

I was trying to think about why the Affleck casting bothers me. It's not because I dislike Affleck (I really liked the last couple films he directed, and I've enjoyed him in certain roles). I dislike the notion that they didn't audition for the part.

If you think about films you probably love, a lot of the time it's due to painstaking auditioning to find the right person for the part. And even then sometimes the person they wanted backs out (Tom Selleck for Raiders; though Jeff Bridges supposedly turned down the role at some point). And sometimes that's a pleasant surprise of the auditioning process. Maybe you as casting director/director go in thinking person A must be perfect for the part, A backs out, and then you realize B was who you wanted all along.

Given how soon WB announced the Affleck stuff after MoS's release, it's likely they did no auditioning at all. They just figured, Affleck's got a big name, a pronounced chin, and has done one albeit no classic comic book film so he knows what's getting into - he's our person A. There was probably no process where person B might get a chance to show he's actually the person they really needed for the role.

Now if they do say at some point they actually auditioned some folks for the role, I'll be the first to say mea culpa. imho, if they truly cast and auditioned for this new Batman take, they'd probably have found a lesser known actor who brought less baggage to the role -- or, maybe it would've just proved Affleck was the right choice afterall.

Whatever my beefs with MoS, I liked Cavill and like many others, hadn't seen Immortals or his cable TV work. He brought no baggage to the role imho; likewise, Christian Bale as of 2004-2005 had plenty of experience but not much baggage. Not even his bad singing in Newsies.  icon_smile

So in the end, not that anyone cares, but my disagreement is more with the apparent process or lackthereof by WB/Snyder, rather than any Affleck hatred.

OK, I guess latest reports say they approached numerous other actors, and Affleck was the only one willing to tackle the role. Mea culpa.  banned icon_redface I guess you can't really do auditions if only one actor is willing.

It's official; this movie is going to suck.

Why couldn't Warner be patient and do a clean, neat trilogy of Superman films like they did with Batman?

They can "reboot" afterwards and go crazy with Justice League stuff.

You know what the Affleck outrage is similar to?  The outrage when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in TDK.

Give it a chance.

Heath Ledger had serious acting cred before The Joker (Best Actor nominee). The main complaints about him weren't his acting ability, but whether or not he looked the role.

Ben Affleck looks the role (handsome, square jawed alpha male). But his acting cred is shaky at best, and he has a proven track record of duds - including one superhero movie that he utterly failed to carry.

The better comparison would be with Michael Keaton. However, even Keaton had not proven an ability to destroy a superhero franchise.

Honestly I hope all the negative backlash inspires him to prove everybody wrong.
