I suppose it's better than remaking another property from the 80's.  If you're going to do it, wait 50 years and remake a classic, I guess.

They already did about 2 years ago or so. It was a miniseries, and it was pretty decent.

The 1959 was a remake itself, actually, of a movie from 1925. Both are inspired by the 1880 book by Lew Wallace. Its just the way things roll :-)
