now in casting.  looks like most of the originals will be back, but for some reason they didn't include sequel options in the original contracts for the first film.

the comic took forever to come out, hopefully the same doesn't happen with the film.

[edit] put in the full title, plus here's an interview with Mark Millar.

Just saw that the original was one of the most pirated movies ever (at least by torrents).

I found the first half entertaining, and the second half to be boring. It felt like as soon as he got in the villains car, both the main character and I (as a viewer) became backseat passengers.

Decidedly "meh" for me.

Kickass 2 put back?

Quote
So let's do the good news first. Edgar Wright hinted on Twitter yesterday that the release date of The World's End, the final part of the Cornetto trilogy from Simon Pegg and himself, is moving forward. It's now set to be released on July 19th 2013. It was originally scheduled for August 14th.

The bad news? It's done a straight swap with Kick-Ass 2, which is now coming a few weeks later. It's been revealed that Kick-Ass 2's UK release date will indeed be August 14th now, from its earlier July 19th slot.

I included the question mark because the posters above that CK posted also said August,so it being released in July was the first i had heard...Unless UK were to get it earlier(which has been happening recently-UK get's Iron Man 3,Star Trek 2,Thor 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earlier than US)..but what i didn't know, wont hurt me

I think so,i remember hearing this kind of anti violence talk from him before

However, like a lot of people seem to be saying "he'll still cash his check though",but i suppose that would be entirely up to him,it's still his money he has earned in the end i guess

Mark Millar's response

Quote
As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago. Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin. A sequel to the picture that gave us HIT-GIRL was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much...

Like Jim, I'm horrified by real-life violence (even though I'm Scottish), but Kick-Ass 2 isn't a documentary. No actors were harmed in the making of this production! This is fiction and like Tarantino and Peckinpah, Scorcese and Eastwood, John Boorman, Oliver Stone and Chan-Wook Park, Kick-Ass avoids the usual bloodless body-count of most big summer pictures and focuses instead of the CONSEQUENCES of violence, whether it's the ramifications for friends and family or, as we saw in the first movie, Kick-Ass spending six months in hospital after his first street altercation. Ironically, Jim's character in Kick-Ass 2 is a Born-Again Christian and the big deal we made of the fact that he refuses to fire a gun is something he told us attracted him to the role in the first place….

Ultimately, this is his decision, but I've never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real-life. Our job as storytellers is to entertain and our toolbox can't be sabotaged by curtailing the use of guns in an action-movie….Jim, I love ya and I hope you reconsider for all the above points.

Is this a goof or is he for serious?

Just an honest question, have you seen the source material?  I have never read the comics, and thought the first Kick Ass was mildly amusing but not a big deal.  Recently I came across the graphic novel for Kick Ass 2 (note it was prominently displayed on a table in a book store where children could easily read it), knew the movie was coming out soon, and browsed through it.  It was sickening.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Murder of young children.  Gang rape of a teenage girl.  Brutal Butchery of hundreds of innocents, parents of nearly all the major characters being murdered in front of their children.  Dog's decapitated head on a major character's body.  Hit Girl decapitating one of the villians and using her head as a trophy.  All in a smarmy, ha ha this is funny tone.

Shortly after I heard of Jim's decision not to promote the movie.  I think it's the right call.  I understand now that many of the more graphic parts are not in the movie, despite Mark Millar desiring that they should be and the movie should be as controversial as possible; presumably the guys at Fox told him that he was out of his mind.  Either way, I won't ever look at another Mark Millar comic again.  It was disturbing.

Yeah, I would respect Jim Carrey's decision more if he also returned the money he made filming such a violent movie. He does that, then I'll take his opinion a little more seriously.

Exactly.  If you're that strongly against it, then don't take the money for acting in it.

Plus, even if he does donate his paycheck at some point in the future, it still leaves open the question of why he took the role in the first place. It's not like Sandy Hook was the first gun violence our country had suffered. Like Millar said, the script he was given at the start contained plenty of violence, so it's not as if he thought he was filming some harmless  romantic comedy.

He changed his mind.  It happens.  When he first signed on, probably years ago, he felt one way.  Things changed for him.  That's not unreasonable.  I respect people saying he should give the money back, but I don't really understand why.  Sure, that would demonstrate his convictions, but he still did the work.  If your company did something you absolutely could not respect over a course of x months, would you return your paycheques in protest?  Or would you express your unhappiness, maybe even quit, and go about your life?

I agree that he should never have signed on in the first place - I assume all involved were familiar with the source material.  But I don't see why it's so unreasonable that he quietly says he changed his mind, apologizes to his co-workers, and leaves it at that.

Was there nothing written in his contract requiring him to promote the movie?  I have no idea how these things work, so I don't know if actors do all of these radio/TV spots to get their name out there or if it's because they have a contractual obligation to promote the movie.  I know that part of it is to promote themselves, but I thought part of it was that they were being paid to promote the movie.  Perhaps stars just get a flat fee and all promotion goes towards gaining good will towards getting their next job.  "See, hire me and I'll give you all kinds of PR."
