aka Jurassic Park 4, is now due out 6-12-2015.  yep, like the summer could get any more crowded.  so far Pirates 5 got bumped back, but there are still lots of big movies due out then.

so, with 'world' in the title seems to indicate that either more than pterodactyls got off the island or someone decides to make an even bigger park...

I can't wait for the games!  Tresspasser 2!  Which would actually be really awesome.  Imagine something like Day Z or State of Decay, except you're surviving on an island infested with dinosaurs.   drool

Trailer is out!

http://youtu.be/RFinNxS5KN4

Eh, looks fine but certainly didn't blow me away.

I do wonder why they needed to 1. feed the dinosaur a endangered shark.  Couldn't anything fish do?  2. why did they need to create a new dinosaur?  Perhaps the story will explain but it just seems contrived.

For the shark thing, what would you suggest? Based on the size of the dinosaur, I doubt it would have breached the water for a trout..
Is this a reboot or a continuation? I haven't been following this..

Man, as soon as that giant croc at the shark it was almost a literal shark jump moment.  Creating their own dinosaur hybrid puts this into SyFy territory.

Sharks predate dinosaurs, so maybe it's the closest to the dinosaur's original diet?

Just occurred to me that sharks being on the endangered species list probably doesn't mean as much in this world, what with the extinction list no longer being a restriction.

Don't know what everyone's complaining about; I thought that the trailer looked great. As for creating a new dinosaur, why not? They've already made three movies using versions of real dinosaurs, plus it makes sense from a story perspective that the scientists would want to press forward on their research and experiments. Maybe the film will be crap, but I'm at least intrigued enough to keep my eye on it, which is more than I could say for Jurassic Park III.

I'm more concerned about "why?" There are thousands of known dino species, most of them obscure (as velociraptors were until the first JP movie). Introducing some silly dino-human mutant is the only storytelling reason I can imagine for making up a new one. If they do that then this series has officially jumped the megalodon.

Form my perspective, the series has had only one great film, so it jumped that Megalodon a long time ago. I don't look to these films for documentary level realism, and this is standard action sequel escalation. Any plot point can be good or bad, it just depends on the execution; I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt on the basis of that trailer.

A new trailer dropped today

It still looks like a b-movie but a slightly better one than the first trailers made it seem.  Not good mind you but better.

Well, after that trailer I went from "this looks like utter crap" to "this looks like crap but I kind of want to see it". I'm such a sucker for dinosaurs.

But is it me or do the raptors look worse than the raptors from the original Jurassic Park?

I'm sad to say I think this looks terrible. I mean, my main problem is that I remember the previous movies - don't they remember the dinosaur running around San Diego and all the other failures? Yet they do it AGAIN?! And training raptors? It just looks ridiculous.

Training raptors doesn't seem terribly farfetched to me. It's not like we don't train birds, dogs, etc. Why would raptors be different?

The latest trailer made me change my mind from "skeptical optimism" to "pessimistic scrooge." Nowadays they think that raptors, based on brain size, may have been only about as smart as an ostrich. I'm sure they'll be in this one figuring out how to unlock security doors and using pack hunting tactics just like ostriches do today.

Over $200 million opening weekend, 2nd all-time, anyone here besides me see it?

Fun movie, yeah there's some sense of "we've seen all this before" but after so many years, I don't mind seeing some more.  And definitely a good one to see in 3D.  I recommend the "Real3D" that uses the passive glasses if you can find one, much better experience for me.

Oh yeah, and Chris Pratt should be in every movie.  He doesn't get to exhibit too much of his personality here but he's so damn hot it's hard to care.  icon_lol

After seeing this movie over the weekend, I refuse to ever buy a Mercedes Benz.

Sure, there were a lot of product placements, but it was a theme park, and most of that would probably be there just like it was.  Plus, they had a nice joke from Jake Johnson about it and everything.    But the MB product shots were so gratuitous as to be offensive.  There were a ton, but the one that sticks out is where Bryce Dallas Howard drive to Chris Pratt through the jungle and when she pulls up, the car is pristine and the camera lovingly swoops around it.  Ugh.  Plus there were lines like "Let me show you something cool" and "Get the kids somewhere safe" followed immediately by a shot of the car.   They weren't necessarily talking about the car, but the juxtaposition of the line and the product seemed to be intentional.

The other product stuff felt tainted by that.  Although the shot of Jimmy Buffet protecting his drinks outside Margaritaville was priceless.

Enjoyed the movie despite that, but wow was that annoying.

Finally caught this on AMC IMAX today on my day off.

imho, Trevvorow totally brings it with all the action stuff (impressive for someone with one little indy film to his credit). I had a great time.

However, I found almost all the characters annoying, obnoxious, unappealing, unmemorable or some combination thereof. Because of that, I don't think I'd sit through this again. I'll often see summer movies 3-5 times if I love the characters and spending time with them. I really don't want to spend more time with most of the JW characters.

I say "almost" because Chris Pratt just seems to have enough charisma/appeal to remain appealing regardless of the screenplay.

I loved Vincent D'Onofrio in the Netflix Daredevil series in part because he got so many dimensions to play. In JW he's basically a one-note yammering, less entertaining take off on Paul Reiser's character in Aliens. Even the doomed lawyer in Jurassic Park was more 3-dimensional.

Actually, huge setpiece swatches of the movie riff on Aliens and Predator. I didn't mind. I think lots of my favorite films are like a "mash up" of other film ideas I've enjoyed.

Yeah yeah it's summer but going right back to Jaws in 1975, if you get to know and love the characters, then when they're in peril, it's just that more gut wrenching. When it's characters that are mostly just annoying, one-dimensional or underwritten, it's just not the same.

Also seems ludicrous for the lead female character to run around in spiked heels (in a park full of dirt and gravel???) for the DURATION of the movie.  Roll Eyes I mean, I know Kate Capshaw is Spielberg's wife, but did they really need to dig up a Willy Scott character again?  icon_razz

All that said, I had a great time, and ate a couple hot dogs, and enjoyed my day off with a fun film.  icon_smile

Those zookeeper poses are pretty fun, thanks!  But they are still missing the best part of the shot, and that's Chris Pratt's big beefy ass!   icon_twisted  (even better in 3D)
