the Wachowski sibling's next film.

trailer.

Quote
Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

from the title it sounds like this could be the start of a new series from them.

It looks fairly fun I think.  Better than Cloud Atlas!

Looks like any old sci-fi film out there these days. The Wachowski's really need new material. 'The Matrix' was on cable the other night and I was taken aback as to how watchable and enduring that movie is. Too bad they've not found another story like that since.

They should just hire the writer they stole the original Matrix script from.

The Wachowski siblings are showmen, that's for sure. But as we saw with the last Martix movies, they have a real hard time putting any depth into their material.

Looks good. I hope that Sean Bean has a suitably epic death in this one.

Considering the movies that get released in February I think we all know it is a bad sign.  In fact it is probably more than bad.  It is pretty much a guarantee that the movie is terrible.

Here are the lineups for Feb. 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010.

Studios don't move a movie to February unless it sucks.

It's another ambitious movie from the Wachowski's (The Matrix trilogy). Their movies are pretty hit or miss to most people. Their last one, Cloud Atlas bombed financially and was a pretty love it or hate it movie. I happen to think the Wachowski's are brilliant, and I was one of the love it category with Cloud Atlas, so I am totally psyched for Jupiter Ascending. You can never really tell how good a story is just from the trailer, but visually, it's pretty incredible.

Loathed Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. I loved the first Matrix, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas.

While I fully agree, some initial reviews of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" are pretty positive despite it's North American release date of Feb. 13 screaming "I'm terrible! That's why I'm out on this date!" I suspect the studio wasn't confident that "Colin Firth as Action Star" was gonna fly with US audiences. I'd love for something to break the "everything released in February is awful" tradition.

As for Jupiter, I agree it seems a Zero Confidence release date vote by the studio.

What happens when a movie premieres and no one watches it?  icon_razz

Jupiter Ascending in its opening weekend made all of 19 million, which qualifies it as a bomb of flaming wreck status considering it cost 179 million to make (ouch).
I think the Wachowski's make great, if often flawed, movies but I can't say that I am surprised that JA crashed and burned so hard.

Variety had an interesting perspective on the consequences of the failure of the movie: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/jupiter-ascending-flop-wachowskis-failure-1201427887/

The top movie of the weekend was Spongebob Squarepants at 56 million. Oh cruel irony...

I was totally planning to see it but got sucked up prepping my house for some remodel work.  The bad press and general negativity were kind of annoying but that wouldn't have deterred me.  Unfortunately since Kingsman comes out next weekend I suspect I'll miss it in theaters completely, but oh well!  I will definitely grab it when it comes on Amazon.

That said, I have to admit I cracked up a ton for the Spongebob preview...

I doubt that this one will even make my netflix queue. What I've read about it sounds dreadful.

That stupid article about originality should probably mention that the problem wasn't as much originality, but that the Wachowskis already blew their prestige on other lackluster weird projects, so not only did their name didn't have a draw, their name attached to this project actually kept people away.

And then there's that whole, stealing a writer's manuscript for the original Matrix, then running it into the ground.

Meanwhile, Interstellar did fine at box offices, and that's plenty new and original.

I don't think you need perspective on why it bombed, other than the fact it looked like crap, and turned out to be crap.

22% is slightly higher than I expected, but obviously not very good at all.

Any sci-fi fan worth their salt knows that The Matrix ripped off Doctor Who in a story that was itself a rip off of The Manchurian Canidate.

Wait, when did Frank Sinatra play Doctor Who?

My god, I would loved to have seen that!
